Why is my dog's ear flap swollen? Is it a hematoma or infection?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 years old | 32 lbs

I have a german sheperd(3 years old).His right ear's flap is swollen.

This is an ear (aural) hematoma - a blood blister. If it is small, it will sometimes go away on it's own. If it is large, it will need surgery in order to go away. If he has an underlying ear infection that must be treated as well. Typically dogs get these hematomas from shaking their head or scratching the ear from an infection. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951446
