Why is my healthy dog incontinent only at night while sleeping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

I have a 2yr old Mastiff cross Ridgeback who has been incontinent at night. It happens about once a week where she will wet herself at night while laying on the lounge. She will do a few drops here and there every third night or so. It’s very irregular and random and only happens at night on the lounge. She is otherwise healthy and showing no other symptoms

It could be Willow is suffering from spay incontinence. Lack of estrogen may cause the urethral sphincter (a muscle used to control the exit of urine) to relax and release urine involuntarily. The good news is this can be treated medically if this is what is happening with her. I should have her seen by a vet for this problem. I hope this helps!
