My 6-week puppy is bloated with diarrhea. Is panting in sleep normal?

My puppy is only 6 weeks old. He’s bloated and he’s had diarrhea recently but that’s it. I’ve looked up symptoms of other things that could cause this but he doesn’t have any other symptoms from said things I looked up. No lack of energy. He loves to play outside. No vomiting. He doesn’t poop frequently it's usually when he eats. I just wanna know if he’s okay. Also is it okay for him to pant hard when he’s sleeping? I read that dogs do it when they’re hot. Where I’m staying atm it is hot.

I suspect that Lucky may have intestinal worms. Those cause diarrhea in puppies and a bloated stomach. I'd have him seen by a vet for this, and bring along a sample of his poop for the vet to check for worms. If the vet finds worms, they can treat him for it. And yes, it can be ok for him to pant hard when he sleeping, especially if he's hot. I hope this helps!

It could be that Mighty is suffering from intestinal worms which are common in puppies and would give a bloated appearance to the stomach. I would give him a deworming treatment now, and another in two weeks to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed monthly until he is six months of age, and should be dewormed every three months thereafter. As for breathing quickly when trying to sleep, this can be normal and I wouldn't be concerned about it unless he's breathing quickly all the time. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Dog has bumps on neck and near genitals, has heavy and fast breathing during sleep and is constantly panting. Also seems bloated and has diarrhea. (This dog was dropped off by our house so we took him in and I just am worried)
If he is panting that much to the point his stomach is distended, then I would have him checked. The diarrhea can be a sign of an infection and panting can be a sign of pain. The bumps are likely unrelated to the other problems and may be from allergies or being unkempt since it was a stray YOu can bathe him in baby shampoo to help his skin, but i would have a vet check him to get the other problems assessed

Having severe diarrhea like Beckett seems to be having can be very painful and uncomfortable. This may be why he is more lethargic than normal and why his stomach seems tense/contracted. It is great news that he doesn't have Parvo! Hopefully in addition to the antibiotics your vet also dewormed Beckett, as puppies often have intestinal parasites. If Beckett stops eating, begins vomiting, or the diarrhea isn't improving after about 48 hours of being on the medication I would recommend bringing him back to the vet to be reevaluated. Sometimes with severe diarrhea these little puppies can become dehydrated and need additional treatment like fluid therapy. Good luck!

I just got a 8 week old puppy. He people said he is really sweet and cuddly. He like sleeps all day, he breathes fast & hard, he looks a bit bloated. But when he is awake he is happy and seems fine. Is any of this normal or should I be concerned?
8 weeks is the time for a first puppy exam and having the first course of puppy vaccinations. Looking a bit bloated is a possible sign or intestinal parasites (all puppies have them) and therefore it is also time to worm your puppy. When you take him to your vet for first shots, he will worm the puppy as well.

Hi Si! Congrats on your new puppy Sharas. Intestinal worms are very common in young puppies, and that could be the cause of his diarrhea and having to poop as often. Lots of worms can cause gas and a big belly as well. I'm not sure if he has been dewormed, but if he has not, he will need to be as soon as possible. I recommend Panacur, which you can get at a pet store or your vet's clinic. It's a three dose course of treatment, and you will need to give another course of treatment two weeks after the first finishes to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed monthly until he is six months of age, and after that should get a deworming treatment every three months. His food could be a source of his problems as well if you have changed his diet from what he was having previously. He should only be eating a high quality puppy formulated food, but you can try a home remedy to see if that helps his issues. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat c

Lu is so cute! It could be he has intestinal worms. They are common in puppies and cause diarrhea. If he isn't up to date on his deworming treatments, pick one up for him from the vet in the morning. It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, probably a severe infection. . i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It's possible that your puppy has some other type of parasite that a regular dewormer won't treat, such as coccidia or giardia. He may also have a food allergy or intolerance to something in his diet - this can develop over time, so it can be the problem even if nothing has changed recently in what you are feeding. Or, he may have some type of nutrient absorption problem such as EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency). I would recommend taking your puppy to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to. He/she can do a fecal exam as well as blood work or other testing if needed to help determine the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

I am sorry to hear that Kaner is not well! Regarding his panting- this can be a sign of respiratory problems, heart disease, pain, stress, or can be normal when nervous or hot. If he seems distressed by it, unable to breathe deeply, and/or has decreased exercise tolerance I think it would be safest to have him examined and possibly have an x-ray done. If it is transitory and overall he is himself, you can also try taking a video of it to show your vet and/or monitoring his respiratory rate at rest (<20 times a minute is considered normal, although of course does not rule out all issues). In regards to his diarrhea, this could be from a new food, related to his increased panting, or unrelated (eg perhaps he was exposed to trash, or a virus or bacteria outside). If watery or persistent, it may be a good idea to have his stool tested for parasites and/or an exam performed. I also take his appetite, energy level and overall demeanor into consideration. It could be that Lex is suffering from intestinal worms which are very common in puppies and would cause diarrhea. It's a good sign that he is playful and active as well as eating, so the worms would be at the top of my differential list. Other possibilities include a GI illness or the diet you are feeding him. I would give him a deworming treatment such as Panacur which you can get OTC. It's a three day course of treatment, and he will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old and then should be deworming every three months thereafter. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments, then I would have Lex seen by a vet for a health check.
