Dog struggling to breathe, licking, swallowing, and eating grass at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 40 lbs

I’m concerned about my dogs breathing. In the middle of the night, she has these licking fits, has trouble swallowing, can’t breathe well and wants to go outside to eat grass. I took videos last night, but it wont let me post them. Please let me know if there is another way to share these videos. This has happened probably about 4-6 times in the past 6 months.

I think you may be able to share videos with a consult, but the best thing to do is have Sadie seen by a vet. You can show the vet the video and they can examine her to see if there are any serious problems with her breathing. If there are, the vet can diagnose them and discuss treatment options. I'd take her into a vet today. Best of luck.
