Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs
I adopted a cat a week ago from a foster. He is 5 years old, neutered. His poop is soft but not quite diarrhea. I assume it is from the new environment and a possible diet change. I have meow mix but am looking for a better brand with better ingredients. My concern is he is tracking litter and poop all over the house. Could this just be an issue with soft poop, should I get his nails trimmed? He smells really bad and it’s getting all over my furniture.

I suspect the poor quality of the stool is a big problem though a poor quality litter could also be the cause. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 48 hours, I recommend to have Flynn examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. I hope your kitty starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.
