Why is my dog still shaking after vet shots and medication for pain?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 50 lbs

Thank You for awnsering the quesiton about Annie, she has been to a vet they gave her an anti-inflamatory shot and a pain shot and she is on medicene right now but the shaken is still frequent

I'm so sorry Annie is still shaking from pain! She may need additional pain medication. I would give her vet a call to let them know she is shaking. Truly rest her as much as possible so she can heal. Poor girl!

What you are describing is pretty normal side effects from the anesthesia. Dogs definitely feel pain after surgery! You should only give pain medication from your vet. OTC human pain medications are not recommended. If you did not receive any pain medication to give her, call your vet so they can dispense the proper medication for you to give. Other than that, keep her as calm and quiet as possible. Don't bother her too much. Just let her sleep. Keep her away from any other pets until she is fully healed from surgery (about 10-14 days).

Poor Winnie! Try not to panic at this point, sometimes dogs can have odd reactions to medication. It really depends what sort of pain killer, if it is some sort of opioid such as buprenorphine/methadone etc then shaking is very commonly seen as it enters the nervous system. However with other painkillers such as metacam etc then it wouldn't be so common. Secondly, a dog can always have an allergic reaction to any medication so if this is a medication she has never had before I would consider calling your vet for advice if her condition does not improve. Finally, there is always a possibility that something else is going on. I would double check that you gave the correct dose of medicine, and if not and you overdosed ring your vet immediately for advice or to be seen. If she continues to deteriorate I would take her into the vet in case she is having a medication reaction or it could be that her original condition is getting worse or developing. But most importantly try not to panic

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Maya. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Neck and back pain are common in small breed dogs. This is very painful and can cause shaking, panting and a reluctance to jump. Her veterinarian can detect this on her exam or another problem if that may be the case. In the meantime, keep her quiet. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Poor pup! It sounds like she may be in pain still or having a hard time recovering from her surgery. I would let your vet know right away so they can either provide a different medication, or have her seen to make sure there isn't an infection or other complication that needs to be addressed.

It sounds like she should be examined by a vet to determine the source of her pain. She could have neck or back pain, arthritis, abdominal pain, etc. and your vet should be able to localize the pain and decide the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory and your vet can prescribe. Do not use any human OTC pain relievers as they can be toxic to dogs.

Such a reaction to vaccinations are not completely uncommon, these usually resolve without treatment within 24 hours. if it has been more than 24 hours and she is still not herself i would advise you to contact your vet, sometimes pain killers are needed. in some more rare cases vaccination reaction can cause more long lasting issues, but this is extremely rare.

My small dog is shaking like crazy and is just not her self. What should I do?
Poor Sweetie! She could be shaking because she is in pain. She could have neck/back pain, abdominal pain, etc. causing her some discomfort. The best thing would be to have her examined by a vet to determine the cause of the shaking. Your vet can do a full physical examination to diagnose the problem and then determine the best way to treat. Hope she feels better soon.

It sounds like Lucy is painful from the surgery, and if she was prescribed pain medication, I would make sure to give that to her as prescribed. Should she not have pain meds, I would call your vet now to speak to them about getting her some. Please do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Poor pup! Dogs can be a little lethargic and sore after receiving their vaccines, but that should pass in a day or two. If she is still acting like this after 48 hours, or develops other signs such a vomiting, diarrhea, hives, or difficulty breathing, I would have her seen by a vet immediately.
