Is my dog getting too much calcium from supplements with fortified food?

Thank you Melanie. So does that supplement have to much calcium for a diet that is already fortified with Adequate calcium? just trying to make sure I understand, thanks! They say they use whole fish which has bones in it which is why there is calcium in it... it seems like it’s to much calcium to me, am I correct to think that? Thank you.

Yes, you are correct, it's too much calcium. As I said in your previous post, Chloe's dog food will give her all the calcium she needs and she doesn't need any extra. Too much causes medical issues. You are giving her the fish oil pill and joint supplement, that is plenty of supplements for her. You don't need to give her any more. I hope this helps :-)

I'm glad to help you! I think the enzymes you should give are CoQ10 and the joint pill. I do think you are giving too many, especially if Chloe is on a high quality diet. Too many supplements can be detrimental to her health, so I would stick with only the CoQ10 and joint pill :-)

Hello again! If you are already giving a joint supplement and fish oil, do not give Chloe this additional supplement. Too much fish oil isn't good for her. I'd give the joint tablet and fish oil only. Cosequin is important for her to have for her joint health, and Nordic naturals fish oil is a good brand.

If Chloe's food does have a ration of 6:1 omega 6's and 3's, then she doesn't need a fish oil supplement. Too much fish oil can have detrimental effects on the health of a dog including interfering with wound healing. The only pill I would recommend giving Chloe would be the joint pill :-)

Good morning Ms Yeung! I would not give this supplement to Mochu if it contains D3. Too much vitamin D can be toxic to dogs, as it causes hypercalcemia (increased blood calcium) which can lead to kidney failure, haemorrhage, and tissue mineralization in the heart, liver and kidneys. She will be getting all the vitamin D she needs from her food, and too much will not be good for her. It's fine to give her Omega 3 supplements, but make sure they don't contain extra vitamin D. With the omega fatty acids, she can have 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined for every 30 pounds of body weight. I hope this helps :-)

Is it necessary to supplement with small amounts of vitamin E when giving fish oil daily? Please explain, thanks!
As long as you are feeding a formulated dog food, this is not necessary. Supplementing vitamin E, and/or fish oils may help the coat look shinier and can be helpful in certain medical conditions. Otherwise the dog food should have adequate amounts in it. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I do not recommend adding a calcium supplement to puppy food it can affect bone growth significantly in a puppy. I recommend stopping that immediately unless directed by your Vet. As for the fish oil, that is fine but how often depends on the brand you are using. Most fish oils have instructions on the bottle and are once daily. If you want to post a picture of the fish oil with the label we can try to help. Your dog does not need any Calcium or Vitamin supplements, all the Calcium and Vitamins he needs are already present inside the dog food you buy for him, just make sure to buy a good quality dog food, you will never need to give him any vitamins or calcium if you do that.

That is a sensible supplement protocol. A joint pill is always good, fish oil can help with skin, and Glandex is good for anal sac issues. No, they don't need probiotics and enzymes on a regular basis. Probiotics are good to give in cases of diarrhea, but on a daily basis have no value. Enzymes have no value either, everything Chloe needs will be gotten from her dog food.

It's fine to give dogs the human grade fish oil. Chloe can have 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined for every 30 pounds of body weight. These pills are a little more than that, but it will be fine. She won't need vitamin E supplementation also. I hope this helps!

Can yu suggest any calcium tab product which is brilliant for gsd dog
It is not recommended to give additional calcium to dogs or puppies, as too much can cause health problems and joint problems. Feeding your GSD a high quality dog food will give him all the calcium he needs to be healthy.
