My senior dog has a nipple lump and won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | 8 years and 5 months old

I’m really scared. Recently I found a little ball near mi dog’s nipple and I started reading and it said that if the dog does not eat then the dog can have cancer. She has not eaten in one week, but she does want to eat human food. The dog is a malteese and she has 9 years

Hi, and thanks for your question. Although a picture of it would help to give you a more specific answer, this lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors.
