My puppy swallowed a plastic clip. What should I watch for now?

My Pomeranian puppy of 5months old swallowed a plastic clip of diameter 1 inch vets aren't available due to Covid 19 lockdown what should I do He swallowed 5hours ago amd not showing signs of discomfort

This may pass without problem. Keep a close eye on Leo for the next couple of days. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, he will need to see a vet asap. Vets will see animals for emergencies during this time.

Since those pieces are small, it is safe to monitor for any GI signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, lethargy or a decreased appetite. There is a good change that can pass through and you will never notice a problem over the next 24-48 hours!

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Charlie! Hopefully it will turn up but monitor your pup’s behavior for the next few days. Watch for a decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain, or difficult having a bowel movement and if these occur seek veterinary care.

Hi, if the wrapper has been thorn into pieces it will probably pass through his gastro intestinal tract together with other food. If it was a large piece swollowed as whole, there is the risk of obstruction and you need to monitor him closely for any vomiting or diarrhoea or straining to go to the toilet or abdominal pain. My boxer just got into the puppy’s treats! He chewed open the plastic and I couldn’t find all the plastic. When he was little he ate plastic a lot. I’m now stressed out that he will get sick from doing this. Any help is appreciated.
That was naughty of Tank for getting into the puppy treats! He's a big boy, so hopefully this plastic will pass without problem. There is always a chance of it could cause an obstruction, so keep an eye on him for signs of obstruction which includes vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, and lethargy. If you see any of those signs, take him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

This should be pass through the intestine without causing major problems. I would recommend to monitor Coco for the next 48hours for any sign like lethargy, inappetence, vomiting or having diarrhoea. If that was the case a check up would be ideal.

My 13 week old rottweiler/mastiff puppy just swallowed a paperclip. What should I do?
Hi and thank you for reaching out about Banner. He should be ok. Watch for any vomiting, decrease in appetite, or diarrhea. You should find it come out on the back end later today or tomorrow. There is a small risk of problems but most likely it will pass thru without any complications. I would feed him a good size bulky meal of wet food now to help pass the paper clip on down. If you have any concerns you can have an X-ray taken at anytime. It will show up on there very easily.

My 6 month old pup threw up about 5 or 6 times in a row, of these includes regurgitation. He vomited some kind of black tarp or plastic that he must have tried to eat. He's extremely lethargic right now, he's not moving, save the occasional head tilt
It sounds as Leo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to the ingestion of the plastic foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal upset he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Hi there, and thanks for your question on Boop by Petco. I recommend bringing Leo in to the vet right away. I've had several dogs develop GI obstructions from bottle nipples and pacifiers. If you have another piece similar to the one he swallowed, bring that to show the vet - it can also help to place it on the x-ray table next to the dog, to see what sort of density it would have on x-ray. Based on the size, shape, and density of the bottle nipple your vet can discuss with you if it might be safe to try to induce vomiting, or if you should consider endoscopic or surgical removal. Time is of the essence, as you will have better options as long as it's still in the stomach and doesn't pass into the intestines! Good luck! Hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. The symptoms of gastrointestinal blockage include vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, poor appetite, lack of stools. If you see any of these symptoms in the next 24-48hrs, you should take Rayne to your local vets as an emergency. However, if she chewed the plastic into small pieces, most likely she will pass it with her stools and she will not show any worrying symptoms at all.

My Lhasa apso puppy is about 8 months old & weighs 16lbs I found her with a sewing needle push ball, it had one needle in it on the bottom and I believe that I found her with it not even a minute after she got the ball, she started to tear at the top
It's difficult to know for sure, but it's definitely a concern for causing trauma in the stomach, or intestines. If she ate it within the last three hours, then it's possible that it can be retrieved from the stomach if you take her to the vet. They can take an x-ray and tell if the needle was eaten or not. This would be expected to be somewhat costly at an after hours clinic, but is the best option. The other option is waiting to see if there are any problems. Signs of a puncture is vomiting, not defecating, acting very painful/depressed and a decrease in appetite. If you notice these signs, then Elvie would need to go to the vet immediately for emergency surgery, because this can cause a severe infection.  I hope that helps and all is well with Elvie.
