My dog won't eat and threw up. Is it a stomach bug or vet time?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 1 month old | 85 lbs

My dog is not interested in food today. He will not even eat rice. His stomach is not distended or tender to the touch. He is not in any discomfort (he is lying down happily, tail wagging). He has thrown up 2x today - once was only yellow bile. He has defecated 3 times - two normal and one small, but solid. Should I take him to the vet immediately or should I wait to see if this is just a stomach bug that will pass? Age: 7 1/2 Breed: German Shepherd/Black Lab mix Weight: Approx. 85 - 90 lbs

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Fenrir. Poor boy. It may be he has a stomach illness, but given that he has only thrown up twice, Id keep an eye on him for now. Continue to offer him rice, and add in some boiled white meat chicken (no bones and no skin). If he is still hasn't eaten by the morning, keeps vomiting, has diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, then I would take him into the vet. I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ruffel. Poor boy! If he hasn't thrown up again recently, I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. I’d recommend that you NOT try to feed or force feed Odin and just continue to monitor him. Just like people, dogs can have upset stomachs from time to time for a variety of reasons. They, like us, will not want to eat during those times. The fact that he has not vomited and is otherwise acting happy is a great sign. I’d say pick up the food for the night and see if he’s interested in breakfast. If he does begin vomiting, especially excessively, becomes lethargic, or you have any other concerns, then I am more worried and a visit to the vet is in order. Best of luck to you and Odin!

Hello. Give Bella's stomach a chance to heal by not feeding her for several hours. If she feels like eating a little later this evening, offering a bland diet of 25% cooked chicken or hamburger, & 75% white rice or low fat cottage cheese. Just offer a tablespoon at a time. If the vomiting persists into tomorrow, you should see your vet to start treatment if necessary. I hope she is feeling better soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Grace has refused eating since morning , she has an upset stomach and we can hear her stomach growling. She is not in pain I am sure about that. At 10 pm I took her out and whilst doing that she ate grass and threw up now it's 3pm still refuses eatin
Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care. I hope she's feeling better soon and thanks for using Boop by Petco!

bruno vomited his food that he had at night also his potty is liquid. should i give him his breakfast?
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm not sure what time it is now for you, but I would recommend withholding food from Bruno for about 8 hours since his vomiting episode. Always allow him access to water. Then, I recommend introducing a bland diet such as boiled chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat. You can offer Bruno small meals 3 times a day to help rest his stomach and intestines. This may help him to not vomit and help his stools firm up. If he continues to vomit multiple times, or his diarrhea persists, I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

My mixed breed keep vomiting since yesterday. No eating as much. What can I do?
Throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Buddy for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

I'm sorry to hear that Buster isn't feeling well! Vomiting and diarrhea can occur as a result of a virus, parasites, stomach upset from eating different foods or treats, among other health conditions. If he is acting normally and still able to keep water down, you can try monitoring him at home first by withholding food for 12-24 hours. After that time, offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days, then gradually transition back to his normal diet over another 5-7 days. However, if Buster's vomiting or diarrhea worsen, or if he becomes lethargic and stops drinking, a trip to the vet will be in order to assure that he has not become dehydrated and to get to the bottom of the problem. Hello, and thanks for your question on Boop by Petco. It sounds like Sirius may have an upset stomach. Keep an eye on his stools - you may be seeing some diarrhea in the next day or two. I recommend feeding him small amounts of bland food today (white rice and boiled lowfat chicken). If you see any further vomiting, if his appetite decreases, or if diarrhea shows up, then I recommend bringing him in to the vet to be evaluated. He may need some supportive GI meds to turn around, or this could be the first sign of something more serious, such as a foreign body (something stuck in his GI tract), pancreatitis, etc. Hope this helps and he feels better soon!

Vomiting, inappetence and diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Finlay evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!
