My puppy is weak, lethargic, and threw up after eating sticks. Vet now?

My puppy has been weak and lethargic all day, which is very unlike him. He is a 3mo golden doodle. He has been eating sticks and leaves from the backyard, and he threw up this morning. Help please, we don’t know if we should take him to the vet or not!!! What’s wrong with him?

Yes, I do think you should take Buddy into a vet now. I'm wondering if what he has been eating in the yard has made him sick or if he has a stomach illness. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms and can treat him.

Her stomach may be upset because of eating the sticks, because of the diet change, a combination of both, there's no way to tell just from her symptoms. It may be that there is a piece of the stick still inside causing an obstruction or pain. I recommend getting her in to see your vet for an exam, possibly x-rays, right away if she starts vomiting again, develops diarrhea, continues to refuse food, and/or continues to be lethargic. If there is an obstruction or perforation somewhere in her GI tract, getting her sooner ir better than later, as this condition could require surgery.

Poor Opie! This does not look like bile, bile would be fluid. It may be something he ate. Given his age and that he may be lethargic, I do think it's a good idea to take him into a vet now just to be safe. I hope this helps!

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). Foreign body ingestion and possibly obstruction is possible. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed. Hi, you need to have Arya checked over sooner than in a couple of days as she might deteriorate to the point of not being able to get better. I would not feed her and just offer small amounts of water little and often every half an hour and book an appointment to get her checked over.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Bruzo is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Bruzo evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

My 5 month old puppy vomitted all of his food he ate tonight and hes just laying around and not as active. Should I be concerned or wait until tomorrow to see how he is acting?
Poor guy. As long as he isn’t pacing, pale gums, panting or unresponsive, you should be able to wait until morning to get him checked out by your vet. Chances are he got into something that caused an acute upset stomach. Fast him tonight (not food only water) and then make sure to get him seen tomorrow for further treatment. A bland diet is recommended until you can get him seen. That consists of bland plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese or cottage cheese. I hope that your puppy Red feels better soon. Your pup is so cute, but I'm sorry that he isn't doing well! There could be a number of things causing his symptoms such as parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated, GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or pancreatitis among others. Given that he has been vomiting and has been lethargic since Sunday and isn't getting better, I'd recommend a vet visit for him right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for it. Please take him into a vet now.

Yes, I would take Coco into the vet. It's concerning that he's been vomiting for over 24 hours now, and he could be suffering from a severe GI illness, may have parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated, or could have eaten something rotten. So I got home and my puppy golden retriever threw up and he had diarrhea. His threw up was like brown tan color and his poop was light brown. He’s very down, he doesn’t want to play or anything. I’m very worried and don’t know what to do.
I would take Opie into a vet immediately. He's just over two months old, and he will not be fully vaccinated yet so my first concern is parvovirus. He could also have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. Whenever a young puppy is both vomiting and having diarrhea, it's time to see a vet right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him. Best of luck.

My dog Buddy is very lean, whining and whimpering instead of barking, and has been vomiting. I am very concerned because he came from a very poor family and was not given proper nutrition and was living in a cage. Should I be concerned?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. If Buddy seems off and is whimpering and vomiting, he may have something going on causing him discomfort. Because of his age, I would be suspicious of a viral infection, something he ate that he is having an indiscretion to or a foreign object he ate that is lodged somewhere in his intestines causing problems. Because there are multiple causes and it is difficult to determine what it is for sure, I would have a veterinarian examine Buddy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would consider having his blood tested and abdominal x-rays taken. I hope this helps and that Buddy gets better soon!
