My dog has painful cracked paws. Is it safe to give her Tramadol?

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 55 lbs

After playing at beach my dog was limping then was fine. Later this evening without excersize causing it she was panting excessively. So I looked at her paws and she has 2 cracked paws. I cleaned and sanitized them and wrapped them and put on a cotton sock so they can breathe (been through this before). She seems in quite a bit of pain. I have tramadol 25mg tablets from the last time she had this. She weighs 55 pounds. Is it safe to give her a tablet?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Mitz. Poor girl! Legally, I cannot recommend you give her the tramadol, I can't say it's safe without seeing her in person. You should call your vet now to see if it's safe. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!

Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. I usually start with 50 mg every 8 hours and then increase to 100 mg if you feel it’s needed. Best of luck and I hope you find the reason tomorrow! I hope he improves quickly. My dog bumped her right shoulder, now she has a bump and in a pretty good amount of pain. She is an 10-1/2 yr. Old Australian Shepherd in good health. She weighs 55 lbs. Can I give her 50 mg of HUMAN TRAMADOL I have in house?
Ouch, poor Sadie! No, I would not give her this human tramadol. First off, it's illegal for me to say you can give it to her because I can't see her in person. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. It's impossible for me to say if tramadol is an appropriate drug for her, and she could have underlying health issues I know nothing about that would make this a very unsafe drug for her to take. I also never recommend giving dogs a human pain medication unless specifically prescribed by a vet. If you feel she is in a considerable amount of pain, the best thing to do is take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her tonight. Otherwise, rest her as much as possible. I have a 4 yo English Toy Spaniel and she has a grade 4 heart murmur.She fell off of out deck today and hit her jaw on the board.She keeps yelping when we touch her chin.Can I give her doggy Tramadol? If so, how much? She weighs 13lbs.
Sadly, we cannot give out drug dosages online. Sorry! I would recommend calling your veterinarian as they can prescribe this for you. Given the fall, however, an exam would be worthwhile. There are places on the jaw that can fracture, and this would need to be repaired ASAP. Poor girl!

My cocker spaniel has had a cancerous tumour removed from his gum. He has been given tramadol but has been crying a lot. He's eating & drinking but still seems in pain. How much tramadol can I give him or can I give him a 'human' painkiller?
Poor Oscar! I would call the vet who prescribed him the tramadol to see how much he can have. Unfortunately, it's illegal for the experts at Boop by Petco to give the dose information for any drug without seeing the animal in person first. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry for all that Brooklyn has been through. It is fine to use the tramadol as prescribed at the time of her spay but I recommend that you call your Vet first and describe the symptoms that Brooklyn is having. They may want to see her first to determine why she is still painful this far out from surgery. I hope this helps and I wish you both the best.

My 10-year-old shih tzu has been limping and may have arthritis. He's been getting glucosamine supplements for several months. Can I give him Tramadol for pain? We have some leftover from a recent visit to the vet for an injured paw.
Poor Wookie. It is never a good idea to start a medication without having checked the patient before. All the medication have side effects and have to be carefully prescribed and given only for the appropriate disease. There are different medication against pain and Tramadol is one of those but recent studies suggest might not be as effective as we thought, there are other more effective medication. I recommend to have Wookie checked by your veterinarian to asses the level of pain and prescribed the correct medication taking in account all Wookie history and concurrent heath problems, if present. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Eva injured her leg! Unfortunately, there are no safe human pain medications that can be given to dogs. Medications such as Advil, Aspirin or Tylenol can be fatally toxic to dogs, and should not be given. They can also interfere with medications that your veterinarian will want to prescribe when he/she sees Eva on Monday. The best thing you can do to help Eva in the meantime is restrict her activity. If she has a crate, I recommend keeping her in this during the day and night, except for taking her out on a leash to urinate/defecate outside 3-4 times per day. If you don't have a crate, keeping her restricted to one room in the house where she cannot run or jump on/off things will be the most helpful. If you feel that Eva is in too much pain - i.e. she is whining or crying constantly - she should be seen by an emergency veterinarian and you should not wait until Monday. I hope this is helpful!

Can I give my dog a tramadol after giving apoquel 7hrs ago. He’s in pain with an infected toe.
Tramadol and apoquel do not have any negative interactions. If the tramadol was prescribed to Dobby then I don’t have any concerns about using it with apoquel. I would definitely encourage you to have that foot evaluated by your veterinarian soon to see if antibiotics would be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. No, I would not give him your medication, as it is not prescribed for him and it's never safe to give a dog unprescribed human medication. I would refill it first thing Monday, and until then, you can give him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis. I would also keep him quiet, taking him out to toilet on a lead only and bringing him right back in when he's done.
