Could ropes stuck in my dog's mouth cause fever and red gums?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Smooth Fox Terrier | Male | 19 lbs

Hello my dog looks to have fever and he have red gum. I look in his mouth and found some pieces of small ropes strongly stuck in there. I removed them easily because he was really happy i help him to escape of it. Do you think it can be the only reason of his fever ? I attach the color of the gum now but its a little more clear than earlier and at the middle of the second picture you can see a little darker where on of the rope was in his gum (1cm of rope)

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Michael. Poor boy! It could be he developed an infection from this rope in his mouth, and that may have been the cause of this fever. Unfortunately I cannot say this for certain without seeing him in person. I think it's best to get him checked out by a vet today to be safe. Best of luck.
