Dog ate foxtails, vomited, now normal. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 70 lbs male maliniois mix. Yesterday while I was doing yard work he must have ingested some foxtails. He acted completely normal after the yard work but in the middle of the night he threw up twice. There were some foxtails in his vomit. I checked his body, nose, and oral air way for any I would visibly see but nothing was there. He is normal as far as appetite, energy, and water intake. Should I go to a vet?

Fox tails are tricky. They would probably pass without cause, but there is a small possibility that they could migrate from the GI tract. Due to their small nature, a vet would not be able to remove them at this point. If you dog continues to act normally, I wouldn't worry much, but if he loses his appetite or starts vomiting again, he should be examined by a vet.
