Dog ear infection symptoms: Can I treat it at home if vets are busy?

I think my dog has an ear infection, she’s shown some irritation in her ear. Are there any at home remedies as the vets are only taking emergency cases? It’s really hard to get a photo of inside her ear canal but it looks like there’s some irritation She’s been shaking her head and the ear wax drops have not helped nor cleaning her ears out

If ear infections are left untreated, they can lead to hearing loss. Unfortunately this cannot be treated at home without prescription medication, but a vet should see you for this problem. Give your vet a call.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do at home for her. The treatments for an ear infection in dogs is only available by prescription from the vet. In addition, the cause of the ear infection needs to be diagnosed so she can be treated correctly. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. I would take her into a vet today to have her ear infection diagnosed so it can be treated. It's important to any ear infection examined and treated promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss.

Hello- Darla has been rubbing her ears for about a week. It has become more frequent and she seems really bothered. I believe she has an ear infection. Is there something we can give her without having to go to the vet? Thank you in advance.
You can start flushing her ears with ear flush you can buy over the counter at a pet store. Or, use warm solution of half water, half vinegar and squirt a large volume into both ears. Then massage each ear until you get a swishing noise. Wipe the goo out with Kleenex and let her shake her head. The problem with this is that you might get the ear cleaner, but most dogs need an allergy medication like Apoquel or prednisone to stop the swelling and itching in the ear canal and feel better. My Rat Terrier dog is about 12 years old. She has a bad ear infection in her left ear now for about 6 months. I can't afford to take her to a vet and I would like to know what kind of medication I can put in her ear to clear this infection up? J. H
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for Lady at home, and it's quite serious she has been suffering from this bad ear infection for about six months. If left untreated for too long, it will cause hearing loss which can be permanent. At this point, this is a medical emergency and she has to see a vet now. I will give you a number of resources that may help you afford a vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. How do I treat an ear infection at home. I can’t afford a vet visit
Poor Baylee! I'm sorry that she has an ear infection. Unfortunately, this is not something that can be treated effectively without a vet visit. Ear infections are generally caused by yeast or bacteria, and require prescription ear drops to treat. There is nothing you can get over the counter that will be effective for this, so there's really no way around going to see the vet. Fortunately, there's no reason this would need to be an expensive visit - just the exam fee, and the cost of the medication. In the meantime, if she will let you, you can try using an over-the-counter ear flush like MalAcetic to clean her ears. This will not treat the underlying infection causing the redness and discharge, but it may help to make them a bit less sore and itchy until you are able to see the vet.

A special instrument known as an otoscope is used to look deep within the ear canal. Typically a swab is taken from each ear. This is evaluated under the microscope to confirm the infection and determine the cause. Dogs can have yeast, bacterial or mite infections. This helps to choose an appropriate medication and ear cleaner for him. Treatment will vary based on the severity of the infection. You can start by cleaning the ears at home if you have an ear cleaner for dogs. However, he will most likely need a prescription medication to clear the problem. I hope this information helps!

My dog is a poodle mix and he keeps shaking his head. I think he has an ear infection. Is this an emergency? My vet is closed today.
It's not an immediate emergency but it is definitely very uncomfortable and painful, if you have the option to take him today to the out of hours vet i would recommend doing that, otherwise take him to your vet first thing tomorrow morning.

My 11 month old dash hound mix has a nasty ear infection I don’t have the money to take him to the vet what Dre something’s I can do to clear it up at home?
This looks like a very severe infection possibly due to bacterial proliferation inside the ear canal. Unfortunately antibiotics and antiinflammatory drops are needed in this case to be able to resolve the problem effectively.
