My dog has parvo. Are these signs of recovery or false hope?

Pet's info: Dog | Newfoundland | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 23 days old | 35 lbs

My dog has had parvo for a week. Spent two nights At the vet ER. Two days is all we could afford. Sent home with fluids some meds. He is is now drinking on his own and eating small pieces of chicken throughout the day. Still very lethargic and weak. Hasn’t puked since yesterday and hasn’t had runny diarrhea since yesterday. Has shown some signs of life by wagging his tail but still very depressed acting. Are we on the way to recovery or could this be false hope?

These are very positive signs! When a dog survives the first four days of parvo, they have a very good chance of recovery. It may be a few weeks before Sammy is back to himself, but I think based on what you are telling us, those are good signs.

My dog has parvo. I've been treating her at home. She stopped having diarrhea but she still throws up. She does pee normally. Is this a good sign?
If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

What are good signs a dog is recovering from parvo
If Princess is starting to eat, have energy, no diarrhea, keeping food down then I would say she is doing better. If she still is lethargic and not doing well at home I would say that her body is still fighting the virus. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

False positives are extremely rare with this test and I doubt this is the case based on what you are describing. It's difficult to know what stage of parvo she may have without evaluating her, but from what you are describing, it's likely that she is actively infected with parvo and may be recovering. The good news is that no matter the stage of the infection, she will likely get better with veterinary treatment. It all depends on how severely affected she was by this disease and other issues prior to you finding her. Your vet will be the best person to ask about prognosis with treatment, because they would have assessed her overall condition and other factors that can help predict the chances of recovery. I'm sorry Gizmo has parvo! It is a good sign that he's eating, and hopefully he can start on puppy food again soon. Without seeing him in person, I can't say what his chances of survival are, but I can say things are looking good if he's eating and keeping it down. I have 2 dogs that have parvo. theyre both confined. The first one started drinking yesterday Although her wbc is high, is this a good sign? The other one has low wbc. What else can i do?
Having the WBC increasing and the puppy starting to drink is a sign of improvement. You can start this pup on dog food, small amounts as long as she isn't vomiting. Make the food soft and warm and start with it licking small amounts and then increasing gradually until it is eating normally. With the other pup the most important treatment with parvovirus is to maintain hydration. Try dribbling small amounts of water in the mouth every hour or two or I recommend giving sub cutaneous or IV if possible as it is the most effective treatment needed for recovery. Good luck with their care. This is a terrible disease so please get all your pups and dogs vaccinated against parvovirus when they are healthy. What are the recovery signs for parvo. And as he is extremely weak. What can i do next.
Clinical signs of good appetite, normal activity and mental status and no more vomiting or diarrhoea episodes are usually signs of good recovery. It sounds like Harley is not recovering very well. Extreme weakness is certainly something that requires an immediate veterinary check up at your local veterinarian. I am sorry to hear your pup has been sick! If she is eating and drinking without vomiting and is active these are great signs! Many puppies with parvo do great if they have appropriate supportive care, so just be sure to continue any treatments your vet recommended and if she declines in any way bring her back in to her vet for examination.

It's definitely a good sign that she is drinking water. Even if they get adequate amounts of fluids IV, they can still feel parched and want to drink occasionally. This does not indicate that she is dehydrated and is good that she's helping to keep hydrated. The IV fluids, or other methods of hydration should still be given as directed by your vet though. It can take 1-2 weeks to recover from parvo, and it is probably encouraging that Frank is not worse at this point. Even when you are careful about potential exposure and when you follow the recommended vaccine protocol sometimes puppies will still become infected with the virus. While I can’t say the exact odds without knowing more details about his lab values and physical exam, some studies have shown a 90% success rate with inpatient treatment in a hospital and the longer he goes without developing life threatening complications the better his prognosis is.
