Why is my dog swallowing, licking, trying to puke, stuffy nose?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old

Hi my dog (mixed breed part jack Russell) woke me up to her swallowing over and over and licking and kind of trying to puke but she didn’t. Also sounds like a stuffed nose. What could this be ? Where I live there is no clinic :/

It could be Misha is feeling a bit nauseous. I'd keep an eye on her tonight. If this behavior continues tomorrow, she starts vomiting, has diarrhea, has a loss of appetite, or is lethargic, take her into the closest vet to you.

That can sometimes happen if your dog has a runny nose which can just be due to minor irritation such as dust or a cold. Your dog may lick at his nose to try and clear it away. I'd just keep an eye on him for now, and if you see any symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, discharge that is discolored or not clear, or he shows general signs of illness such as changes in appetite, fever, lethargy, etc, then bring him into your vet for an exam. Making sure the area he is staying in is dust-free may also help if it is allergy related as well.

Hello, I woke up to my dog trying to throw up - and now it’s turn into more of a cough / runny nose and trying to throw up, how do I know if it’s serious and should take her to the vet? She has only been around her other family dogs (she lives with)
I'm wondering if she actually has a productive cough - a cough can sound very similar to attempted vomiting in a dog and they will often retch at the end and produce a small amount of white foam. This would go along with the runny nose that you're seeing. You should see your vet - this could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection, an infection like kennel cough, or even pneumonia. Even if she has not been around other dogs and she is the only one showing symptoms at this point an infection is still possible.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Naisha. If she continues to make the noises you described, I recommend that she sees her veterinarian today. She could be experiencing nausea that is making her retch, gag and lick her lips. Other times these noises can actually be related to an upper respiratory tract infection. The puppy will cough and gag. This can occasionally bring up a white foamy fluid. Either way she should be seen as she is such a young puppy. I hope this information helps!

How do i make my dog cough? Because she keeps licking her mouth and the floor, she gags every once in a while too,she is also shaking. What should i do? why is she licking everything and why is she shaking? Thanks
It sounds like Zuzia is nauseous, not needing to cough. Shaking could be due to pain. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, continues to shake, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

I am sorry to hear that Ace is not himself. Increased Licking and salvation can be signs of nausea. It sounds possible that Ace be have a gastrointestinal infection. I would advise the following; Bland diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice for three days. If diarrhoea or vomiting begin, Ace seems lethargic or in pain, he does not start to improve over tbhe next few days, take him to the veterinarian immediately. My dog(cavachon, 4) has been restless, pacing, and sometimes licking his lips. No vomiting or diahrea but seems uncomfortable. What could be wrong?
Licking the lips is a sign of nausea in dogs, so there is probably something he ate that didn't agree with his stomach. You can try to withhold food for 12 hours, then put him on boiled chicken and rice for a couple days, if he has the appetite for it of course. If the nausea continues and he won't eat anything you will need to take him to the vet to get treatment.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lilo. Some dogs with an upper respiratory tract infection can cough and gag which can look like they are trying to vomit. They can even bring up a white foamy material. Some will have eye and nose discharge as well. On the other hand, if she is retching and having abdominal contractions, but not vomiting this is worrisome, especially if her abdomen appears bloated. In this case, she would need to see her veterinarian right away. I hope this information helps!

It sounds as if your dog is indeed ill. It is not normal for her to have a stuffy nose and eye discharge, nor is it normal for her to be lethargic and not eating enough. Excesssive drinking is also a concern. She could be having a seripous infection such as distemper, or kidney failure or endocrine disease. She urgently needs to be seen by a veterinarian today.

Those symptoms could indicate issues such as stress, nausea/GI upset, or even something stuck in the throat or mouth. Since items can get lodged far enough back to not be seen just by looking in the nose or mouth, it would be best to bring Kona into your vet for an exam. You vet can take a closer look (with sedation as needed) to see if there is an apparent cause.
