My dog has a dry, scabby spot on her leg. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 44 lbs

My dog has this the back of her leg. It looks kind of like a scab with dry skin but we are unsure what it could be and are worried. Many vets have closed around our area so we would like to know if it is grave.

It's hard to say if it is a wound, a small mass, or a local infection. I would recommend using clippers (not scissors) to cut the hair away from it, then clean with mild soap and water. Then you will be able to monitor it over the next few days. If you have seen Sky lick once, then she needs to wear an e-collar since that could spread infection or delay healing.
