My dog is vomiting. What's the best way to keep her hydrated?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 6 months old | 6 lbs

My dog has been vomittting for a week now her doc suggest to give pedialyte, sent me home with antibiotic and anti nausea/vomiting drugs. I fed her bone broth as well. She also has valley fever disease. What should I do to give her hydrated?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Pedialyte can be given to help with hydration. However, I am worried that if this continues, it may be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as she can easily get dehydrated. Vomiting and lethargy can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. If this continues, I recommend that you have Peggy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start her on medications to make her feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Can i give my puppy Pedialyte because he vomited alot yesterday?
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Yes, you can give Pedialyte (make sure it is unflavored). You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. If Thanos keeps vomiting, he really should see his veterinarian. I actually would recommend hospitalizing Hunter at a 24 hour emergency hospital. Especially if he cannot keep anything down. The best course of action is symptomatic care and IV fluids to keep Hunter hydrated. Even if giving pedialyte, if he is vomiting he isn't going to be getting enough fluids to help. I would also be concerned the more you give orally the more you he may vomit. I hope Hunter feels better soon and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Can a dog have unflavored pedelite when she is sick. She won’t eat or drink. She is 45lbs.
Hello. If Belle feels like drinking, then yes, she can have Pedialyte to drink. You can also try to get her to eat using some cooked chicken or hamburger, or even jars of baby food ( with no onions or garlic in the ingredients ). If she still refuses to eat or drink, I do hope you can have her examined by your veterinarian. She may have some infection or inflammation that is making her feel ill. I do hope she is feeling better soon & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My dog threw up last night then threw up twice again seven hours later. A bunch of brown liquid with few chunks (sorry! Ew! I know.). I gave her some unflavored Pedialyte which she took. Is there anything else I should be doing?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Biscuit! I would actually recommend with holding fluids for 6 hours and food for 12-24 hours. If there is no vomiting in 6 hours offer small amounts of water frequently. If that goes well (no vomiting) then start feeding at 12-24 hours with a bland diet. use boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body blockage, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion or metabolic changes. If she continues to vomit she should be seen by your Vet before the weekend. I wish you and Biscuit the best!

Hello. It is best not to force anything into a vomiting pet. This could just cause her to vomit more. She will not become seriously dehydrated if you are going to have her examined tomorrow. What you can try is to rub some Karo syrup on her gums, perhaps a teaspoon or two every few hours. This will help to keep her energy levels up, but is she vomits even after you do this, then it is best just to leave her be until your vet can evaluate her tomorrow. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Sadie's troubles. You can offer Sadie some pedialyte - that won't hurt anything. However, it may not help as much as something like fluids under the skin or intravenous fluids that she can get at the vet office, because she may just throw up the pedialyte. Dogs that are vomiting and/or have diarrhea can be at risk for becoming dehydrated, sometimes even if they're drinking. There is always a certain amount of fluid loss in the vomit and/or diarrhea that cannot be replaced with simply drinking water. There can be many reasons a 7 month old dog is vomiting too, so I will briefly discuss those, and then ask that you keep an eye on Sadie. If she isn't improving in the next 12 hours or so, she should see her veterinarian. Parovirus is a gastrointestinal virus that unvaccinated puppies can acquire. Should i administer pedyolight immediately after vomiting with a puppy that has parvo?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would refrain from giving pedialyte immediately after Crisco vomits. I would wait until he is not vomiting for a few hours and then offer him the pedialyte. Ideally, Parvo should be managed from a hospital setting as the most appropriate treatment is IV fluids. If you are able to, I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about at home treatments. Your vet can supply you with medications and fluids to help replenish electrolytes. Canine viyo recuperation is a liquid supplement that I recommend using for replenishing electrolytes. I hope this helps! Yes, that is fine to give to her in small amounts at a time, but definitely get into a vet as soon as possible. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends, and I can give you some resources that may help you afford an ER vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. My dog seems dehydrated. Her CRT is more than 2 seconds. She has low energy and doesn’t want to walk much. I’ve given her pedialyte. What might this be?

There are many causes of dehydration and given her symptoms, I would recommend having her blood tested to rule out kidney disease or any other systemic diseases / infections. She will likely need a course of subcutaneous fluids, which is when fluid is administered under the skin and absorbed by the body. This is an effective way to hydrate an animal and is well tolerated.
