My 5-month puppy is licking his swollen foreskin. What should I do?

My puppy 5 months old has been biting and licking his forskin and now it is swollen and blister like.

That is red and swollen! Rocky will need to see a vet for this. Tonight, put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking and biting the area. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. Have him seen by a vet in the morning.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Diesel. I suspect that his skin of his prepuce is irritated from the recent grooming appointment. You can start by bathing that area with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. You may need to place an E-collar on him to prevent any further licking. If these measures do not help, then he will need to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

Hello. My dog Bulle has an enflamed penis. The tip of the foreskin is swollen and I don't know what to do. It is the first time this happens. Should I take him to the vet immediately or can I apply a remedy?
Hello! It's important to be sure that it is the foreskin, and not the penis itself that is swollen. If it is indeed the foreskin, be sure that he doesn't lick at it or damage it in anyway. If it does look quite swollen, it would be a great idea to have him checked out by your vet. There could be an infection, in which case some antibiotics would be helpful.

My dog got her anal glands expressed yesterday but she is still licking the area and the area is red and swollen. Every minute or so she would lick the area and whine every now and then. I don’t know what to do because I’m leaving for vacation tomorr
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This swelling is very severe and warrants an evaluation by a veterinarian for further assessment. This could be related to allergies possibly causing the licking. You can use an e-collar to prevent further licking which would continue to exacerbate this swelling. You can get an e-collar online or at your local pet store. This is most likely causing her pain so pain medications can be started by your veterinarian. Also, this area has become infected and antibiotics will be needed. Good luck and have a good night!

My puppy has been biting and licking his penis all day. He has a red sore next to his penis and looks like some spots next to it. He was at the vet for his shots two days ago an exam. He had runny stool as well a little while ago but I don’t know if
I would recommend bringing him back to the veterinarian tomorrow to have them look at it. It looks like this spot may be infection and antibiotics may be required. The soft stool can be from the stress of going to the vet or he may have eaten something he wasn't supposed to and it upset his stomach. Until you can get him to the vet I recommend putting an Elizabethan collar on him. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hi I've just noticed my dogs swollen private area... Attached below he's been licking it am worried as my vet is emergency only not sure if this is emergency or not
This is, unfortunately, a pretty serious problem. I would say it is an emergency and he should be seen right away. If the tissue gets too compromised it may need to be amputated. I suggest you put some vaseline or other lubricant on it right away and then get him to the vet.

Poor Drax. Its sounds like he may have some type of skin infection or even an allergy in his groin. You should place a cone on him to prevent him from licking and chewing as this will only cause more trauma. He will need to be seen by a veterinarian for skin testing and treatment with anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics as needed.

Yikes! That is very inflamed and I agree that it looks swollen. I recommend to get an elizabethan collar for him and make sure he wears it tonight while you are asleep and any time you are not directly watching him. Licking it may make it worse. As long as Scooter will tolerate it, you can gently wash the area with soap and rinse it well. Applying a cool (not cold) compress may also bring some relief to him. Do this a few times through out the evening. You can apply a dab of coconut oil on the area and rub it in gently. Make sure Scooter does not lick this off as it may upset his tummy. Definitely keep his appointment tomorrow. Poor guy! I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My yorky dog is running arround and I saw that his penis skin if back down and the penis it self looks swolen and he is liking. What can it be or what can.I do now.
It could be that Benji's penis is stuck out of the prepuce (a condition referred to as paraphimosis). Prevent any licking with an e-collar (cone), as this could damage the tissue and cause infection. Benji needs to see his vet immediately to pull the prepuce back into place.

It looks like he might have a skin infection. You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet for treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and a corticosteroid to help. You could also put an E-collar on him to prevent licking.

Our male puppy was neutered 3 months ago, now he is constantly licking where the incision sight would be. The area is slightly swollen and peach. Any idea what could cause this?
Hello. It is possible that there is still some underlying suture material trying to breakdown & dissolve. This could be causing some local inflammation. I would place an Elizabethan cone on him to prevent licking until you can have your veterinarian examine the area. It may do fine if you can keep him from licking, but this might also benefit from some topical therapy. Your veterinarian will know what to do once he has a chance to evaluate things.
