My dog is throwing up repeatedly. What bland food can I give her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 14 lbs

What can I give my dog who is throwing up. 3 times in the past 2 hours. She was put on medication 3 days ago and has been fine. I had to switch her to a soft dog food but she has been fine with that as well. Her vomit was all the soft dog food she ate today.

Poor Faith. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Oh no, poor Rocky! He could be suffering from a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten or toxic, could have a foreign body, or could have parovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated. If he only threw up yesterday and is able to keep down water, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Yes, I would try a bland diet for Cindy.

Poor Sadie! Her stomach may still be upset, so I would try to tempt her to eat with a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she still refuses to eat the bland diet, starts vomiting again, stops drinking water, develops diarrhea, starts throwing up water, or becomes very lethargic, then I would take her into a vet right away.
