My puppy swallowed a bully stick and vomited. What to watch for?

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 18 days old | 15 lbs

3 month old puppy swallowed a 4 inch long bully stick. Brought to ER vet and she was no longer choking but did vomit quite a bit 2 hours ago. Is there any signs we should look for?

Keep an eye out for more vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and a loss of appetite. If you see any of those signs, take her back into a vet right away. I hope this helps!

She most likely upset her stomach with the new chew. I would only be concerned if she doesn't want to eat dinner, is lethargic, vomiting or diarrhea. Then I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian to have her evaluated. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

So Draco was chewing on a bully stick and I was trying to watch him. The next thing I know it was gone. I believe it was about 3-4 inches long. I am worried. He is about three months old and 25 lbs. should I be concerned and what should I look for if
The stomach acid does a pretty great job at dissolving bully sticks. However, if he seems to have any trouble Swallowing, if he won’t eat, or has any vomiting and/or diarrhea then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. 4 month old puppy swallowed a 6 inch bully stick after only softening about 1/2 of it. Did not choke on it and is resting peacefully. How concerned should I be?

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! Allie is likely going to be just fine. As long as she is eating, drinking and not lethargic / inappetant then I would just monitor her at home. If she begins to exhibit any of the above mentioned symptoms, I would get her seen by a veterinarian for an examination and to have abdominal x-rays taken to make sure that there is no intestinal obstruction from the bully stick. I would feed her a bland diet as outlined below for at least 3 days past the resolution of the vomiting. I hope this helps! Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that Ciroc ate a little too quickly or greedily, causing her to vomit. However, in puppies, vomiting can be caused by parasites and dangerous viral infections. I recommend keeping an eye on Ciroc for continued vomiting, loss of energy/appetite, and diarrhea. If she vomits again, has any difficulty pooping (acting constipated) is lethargic, not eating or otherwise acts sick at all, then she needs to go to the vet asap. If she is 100% normal after this, then she may have vomited all the fibers that she ate. Be sure to watch what she is chewing on, puppies get into everything. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are a few possibilities here. One possibility is that he has dietary indiscretion (upset stomach) which is causing him these signs. Another possibility (and more concerning) is something like a gastrointestinal obstruction causing him the signs. I would recommend a visit to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may take abdominal radiographs and consider symptomatic treatment to make him feel better right away. I would shy away from those treats in the future. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Oh no! I would check his stools to see if they pass. If he can't pass them then the signs would be vomiting, not eating, lethargy. You can also have an X-ray taken to see if they are inside him! I hope this helps!

Good question. Look for tremors, drooling, constricted pupils, diarrhea, seizures, and an increased heart rate. Typically symptoms of nicotine poisoning occur within one hour of ingestion, but I'd watch him tonight to be safe. If you see any of the signs I mentioned above, please take him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. It sounds like Princess may have eaten something naughty (trash, toilet paper, paper plate, sock, toy stuffing, other) that decided to come back up. The fact that she has shown no signs today is promising. If she has eaten and kept it down, you are likely in the clear. Caveat: Do watch her closely for the next 2-3 days because if a smaller piece of whatever it was did get through and gets lodged in the intestine, you'll see lots more vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. If this happens, it's time to see the vet.
