My cat keeps coughing and gagging, but nothing comes up. What's wrong?

Hi my 9yr old female cat has been coughing or chocking gaging but not coughing anything up it's been going on for about a month one or two times a day I'm scared have no money to pay for vet is she ok. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 20 lbs
