Why is my dog's eye red, inflamed, and watery? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 25 lbs

My dog has a small red inflamed area on her left eye in the corner on the white part and her eye like to get watery. I'm not sure if she scratched it or what. Shes acting fine eating fine playful as ever, but I'm not sure how to help besides wiping the tears off her eye with a warm paper towel. Any idea on what I can do to help her eye?

I recommend to have Harper examined by the veterinarian if you are seeing a lesion on the white part of her eye. It sounds like she may have an injury or a ruptured blood vessel. There is nothing you can do at home except make sure she is wearing an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent her from rubbing the eye which could make it worse. If there is an injury, the veterinarian may prescribe antibiotics. Keep her eye clean as well. I hope this helps.
