My dog was exposed to parvo. Is bloody diarrhea an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 50 lbs

2 weeks ago someome brought a dog into my home. 3 days later they confirmed that dog had parvo. today my dog had a really bad accident (he never has accidents inside) and there were small amounts of blood. i have him an appointment set up with the vet at 10 am tomorrow (16 hours from now). he seems to be eating and playing fine he just had diarheah that one time and he’s been panting a lot (id assume from playing) will he be ok until his vet appointment in the mornimg?

As long as Spooky is eating, drinking, and isn't lethargic, he should be fine until tomorrow. If he starts vomiting, has more bloody diarrhea, stops eating, or becomes very lethargic, then you need to take him into a vet immediately.

The blood in his diarrhea could be due to irritation of the GI tract since he's had diarrhea for three days. As long as he is eating without vomiting, isn't lethargic, and is drinking water, you can wait until the morning to have him see a vet. Now if he starts vomiting, becomes lethargic, the amount of blood in his diarrhea increases, he stops eating, and/or he stops drinking, then I would take him into an ER vet. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. Yes, other signs typically would be present with parvo such as vomiting, lethargy and inappetence though in theory it could still be parvo. I recommend that you have Shaggy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Unfortunately without seeing Yuki in person, we cannot say if she will be fine or not. Getting her into the vet with these symptoms as soon as possible is her best chance at being fine, and I strongly urge you to take her into an ER vet clinic or find a vet on call to see her now. If you have to wait until the morning, offer her water, no food, keep her warm and comfortable.

Hello. If you are concerned about parvo, blood may not appear in the diarrhea for another day or so. If he continues to have vomiting & diarrhea, Justice will become dehydrated & this will make him very, very weak. If he is not feeling better tomorrow, you really should consider having him evaluated in case he does need treatment to get well. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor guy! If he is otherwise ok then he should be fine until the morning. It isn't uncommon for blood to appear in diarrhea. It indicates inflammation in the colon. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites (so bring fresh stool sample), viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), HGE (hemorrhagic gastro-enteritis), pancreatitis, food allergy or intolerance, reaction to a new treat/food/table food. It sounds as your puppy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

I would keep an eye on him, and even offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to see if it helps if his symptoms have only been minor/happened once or twice. Reddish blood in the stool can indicate irritation of the lower GI tract, or even issues such as parasites. If Sparrow continues to have bloody stool, diarrhea, vomits more, is very lethargic or painful, or refuses to eat anything, it would be best to bring him into a vet for a complete workup.

This blood in his diarrhea could be due to intestinal worms, eating something rotten, a foreign body, parvo if he isn't vaccinated, or a severe stomach illness. He should definitely see a vet for this. As long as he is otherwise ok, it can wait until the morning. When is it time to see a vet? My dog has had several bouts of diarrhea for the past week and last night I noticed it was blood-tinged.
Hello. If your dog is eating & drinking well, not lethargic, not showing signs of abdominal pain & not vomiting, this is not an emergency. But it probably would be a good idea to have him seen, or at least have a stool sample looked at early next week. If you could get an appointment to be seen today that would be great, but if Prince is otherwise feeling well, you can watch this for another day or so. Hope he is doing well soon. My dog bailey isn't doing very well she likes to eat canned cat food and dog food and now she won't have any stool just blood the fastest we can get her into the vet is tomorrow what should I do??
I would try to see your vet on an emergency basis today if at all possible. Bloody stool and not eating in a very young puppy could indicated something serious going on like Parvo. Bailey will need to be tested for Parvo and if positive, will need to be treated with antibiotics, nausea medication and fluids to prevent dehydration. The sooner you get her treatment started the better. Good luck.
