My dog drinks water too fast and then vomits. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 75 lbs

My dog keeps wanting to drink a whole bowl of water and then pukes it back up. Could this have anything to do with his Lyme disease and the meds that he is on? I just asked this question but feel I should rephrase it a little. If I don’t let him drink the whole 5 cup bowl only like 1 1/2 cups he is fine and keeps the water down with no problems

Thank you for additional information, that really helps! If Moose doesn't puke with only 1.5 cups of water, then it may be he's drinking too much water too fast when you give him 5 cups, leading to the vomiting. I'd give him little bits of water at a time to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then have him seen by a vet.

What you describe sounds more like regurgitation. Sometimes this can happen to dogs when they drink water too quickly. This happens regularly to my dog actually after going on long walks. Something that can help is to not allow her to drink lots of water at once (this has worked for me). If it continues to occur despite a normal water intake at once the further work-up for possible gastrointestinal diseases or other possible causes of regurgitation would be warranted.

I just got in from walking my German shepherd husky mix, I did my normal, gave her food and water with ice in it. But today she drank all the water (but some ice cubes) and turned around and threw up brown (food color) water... she did this yesterday
It's possible that Iris may be drinking the water too quickly, and then vomiting it up. Slowing her down by offering smaller amounts of food and water more frequently rather than one large amount of food and water may help her keep it down and can help reduce the chances of possible bloat. If she continues to vomit, or otherwise acts ill, scheduling a vet appointment to look for underlying issues is best.

Poor piper. This sounds like she is likely drinking too much too fast. I would try to limit the amount you put in her bowl at any given time. So I would only put a small amount, let her drink that, then wait 20-30 mins then give her some more to see if this helps. If it does, then you know you have discovered the problem. If she is still vomiting up her water then I would have your vet check her out as there could be some other things going on with her like acid reflux or megaesophagus. The flatulence can be caused from gulping her food and water or from the type of food she is on and how her body digests it. You can try changing her food but make sure you mix the old food with the new food for 10 days to prevent an upset tummy. I hope this helps!

After every time my dog drinks water he throws up huge puddle of it. I took him to the vet for it already should we go back?
I am so sorry this is happening to Gibby. I am sure it is very upsetting for you. It is possible he is simply drinking too much too fast, and I would try limiting how much he can have in one go. Or perhaps try using a water bottle dispenser which limits how much he can intake at once. It is also possible that there is a medical or structural cause of the issue and I would agree it is worth taking him back to the veterinarian for a re-examination to be on the safe side. My dog drinks water then throws up his food, twice in 2 days. Still eating and drinking at other times.
there is a chance that it's just him eating too fast then drinking too much, otherwise it could be an upset stomach (usually an infection or indigestion) or something stuck in his stomach (a toy or other foreign body). If it carries on put him on boiled boneless chicken and rice for a couple days, then if it still persists take him to the vet to receive adequate treatment.

My Cavachon is 5 years old. When she drinks water she always brings up a tiny amount of water afterwards. Been doing this for a long time now. Could this be a problem? She’s not showing any signs of health issues, eats well.
She is likely just drinking the water too fast or too much at one time. The only concern would be her risk of aspirating the water. If she does this with food as well, I would have your vet take a look at her. Otherwise, just keep an eye on her and just let her have small amounts of water frequently rather than a large amount at any given time. This may help decrease the frequency of the spit up. I have 2.5 year old neutered male dog, he's 40pounfs. My question, started couple days ago, when he drinks his water some water comes back up it's not like he's vomiting.
This seems more likely to be due to regurgitation rather than vomiting. Commonly, megaesophagus (pathological enlargement of the esophagus) is suspected in these cases and possible differentials have to be ruled out to establish a diagnosis. Neuromuscular disease (e.g., myasthenia gravis, distemper, myositis), esophageal masses, Toxicity (e.g., lead, thallium), idiopathic inflammation of esophagus are all possible. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed. I am sorry to hear about Mia. If she is very lethargic/weak, has blood in the vomit, or has a painful abdomen then I think she needs to be seen by her vet right away. If she seems energetic then you can try removing her food and water and fasting her for 6 hours (no food, no water,no treats, no grass or things in the yard if she goes outside) and see if the vomiting stops. If it continues she needs to visit her vet. No, definitely not normal. I'd be a bit worried that he may have megaesophagus but he should be doing this with both food and water so it's a bit perplexing. Is he actually vomiting (an active process) or is he regurgitating (a passive process). Regardless, it is not normal. I suggest you have your vet do some x-rays of his chest/neck to see if there is a problem. Hope this helps. Hi my 4 month old cocker spaniel gets sick after drinking water and after coming in from outside. It usually happens only in the evening
It could be Bailey is drinking water too quickly causing him to vomit. It could also be that he's running around like crazy outside making him sick. But this can also be a sign he isn't well. I'd have him seen by a vet for this.
