My dog has diarrhea with spots in stool. Is it worms or an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 35 lbs

Betty has had some diarrhea issues over the last few days. Her stool solidified at one point, but today went back to a number 6 or 7 with unsettling spots in the stool. We're worried about worms. Her diet has been strictly white rice and ground beef for two weeks but she has been to dog parks with plenty of tennis balls. We can't get an appt. with our vet before Friday and I wonder IF YOU FEEL THERE IS AN EMERGENCY based on the attached photo of most recent stool?

It's definitely diarrhea and Betty may have tapeworms, but as long as she is eating, drinking, there isn't blood in her stool, she isn't vomiting, and she isn't lethargic, it's fine to wait until Friday. It's an emergency if there is blood in her stool, she's not eating, not drinking, vomiting, or is lethargic.
