My puppy ate biscuits and has a swollen stomach. Is it serious?

Hi my 19 week old puppy stole and ate half a pack of biscuits now has a swollen stomach will she be ok x

The swollen stomach will be from eating the biscuits. There will be a bunch of sugar in these, and that can cause stomach upset. Watch Willow and if you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have her seen by a vet.

Hello, it certainly sounds like Piper may have gotten into something while you were not home. Besides other creatures, dogs may like to get into the trash, food, or even toys. The biggest concern with this is that these pets could become obstructed in their GI with the foreign material they ingested. Other potential secondary effects may include inflammation of the bowel and pancreatitis. I would recommend watching Piper for any persistent distention of her belly and have her evaluated if she develops any additional signs such as vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and a decreased appetite. If she otherwise seems to be getting back to her normal self then you may just continue to watch her. Make sure she has plenty of fluids available and walk her more frequently today as she may need to go the bathroom more often. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Although bloat can be potentially very serious, as long as she is mobile, not painful and not exhibiting any non-productive vomiting/empty wretching it should work its way out. Some gentle laxatives such as medical grade liquid paraffin mixed in soft food or cat hairball paste can be helpful. Try to encourage drinking also to stimulate digestion. I would expect some diarrhoea and possibly mild vomiting but any shivering, wretching or respiratory distress is a medical emergency. Dry kibble is especially concerning as it continues to swell after being eaten.

my dog won't eat or drink and she has a swollen stomach
Sheena should be evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If her belly is swollen she could be suffering from bloat (stomach full of air), a GDV (where the stomach bloats and turns on itself) or she could have fluid in her belly or uterus (pyometra). Eating high sugar items cause lead to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract or even the pancreas. I would monitor her closely and consider feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to help her stomach settle. If she seems lethargic, painful, is having vomiting, or diarrhea, she should be seen by a veterinarian.

Hi my puppy has swallon lumps on face around eye after eating dog biscuits.
If this happened right after he ate the dog biscuits, he must be allergic to this food. it is very swollen so i would recommend bringing him to the vet right away to get an anti histamine injection to reduce the swelling.

My dog is having a swelling in bellyfor last three days,she is not eating anything all day she is lying and becoming very thin,she is only 1 month old and had a injury on his back recently which is now healed
Not eating for 3 days is serious for a puppy. They are not able to regulate blood sugar like an adult and they don't have the same reserves either. The swollen belly could be related and could indicate parasites, a blockage, an infection or a heart condition. I recommend to have your puppy examined today by the veterinarian. Hi my 11 week old pup has ate jelly beans ( not sure how many) he vomited and now has a swollen tummy. He is otherwise fine in himself. This was around 1pm today
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. If there was artificial sweetener in these such as Xylitol, then I would be concerned. If these are just regular jelly beans with sugar in them, then he will likely have GI upset and be fine. If he continues to vomit or becomes lethargic, then I would recommend taking him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made.

If your puppy is acting completely normal, then I'd have a fecal sample checked to make sure Sutty doesn't have intestinal parasites. If Sutty is acting sick in any way (lethargic, decreased appetite, vomiting, etc), then a distended abdomen is an emergency and you should go directly to the vet.

My 6 month old puppy has a very swollen, hard as a rock stomach. She did eat a large meal about 2 hours ago but this has never happened before
Awww, she’s a cutie!! If she’s still acting normally... seems comfortable, is energetic and ready to play if prompted, and hasn’t seemed nauseated or like she’s trying to vomit, I would just give her some time. She may have eaten really quickly and have some gas buildup or something of that nature. If she starts retching like she wants to vomit, or if she seems very dumpy and lethargic, take her to the vet. You can check her heart rate as well. Her heart rate at rest should not be faster than 130 beats per minute. If it is faster than that when she seems calm, take her in.
