Why is my dog limping after a nap with no visible paw injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 40 lbs

I took my dog to the dog park earlier today, and we went on a walk about 2 hours ago. She seemed fine when we came back inside and she laid down for a nap. When she woke up, she was limping and went out much weight in her left foreleg. I can squeeze along her leg and wrist and she doesn't have a reaction, but when I touch her main paw pad she pulls away. From what she let's me look at I can't see anything in her pads. She's not licking it or whining at all. Could she just have pulled something?

She could have a muscle sprain or strain, bruise in the pad from stepping on a rock or thorn, or even a broken bone (there are tons of tiny bones in the foot). I would recommend taking Blue to the vet if she is still limping in the morning.
