My dog has a watery, green, crusty eye. Is it allergies or infection?

My dog has a watery eye and had a green crusty in the corner. Is this conjunctivitis or allergies? He has also been rubbing his eyes and licking his paws. The second picture is the watery eye.

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Brutus. I suspect he has an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. You need to take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Tonight, put an Ecollar on him to keep him from rubbing his eyes and potentially making things worse. I will put a link below on how to make one at home. Our dog gets allergies this time of year in South Carolina so we give him a daily Claritin. It helps, but he still gets eye boogers. Lately we’ve noticed gunk in one of his eyes rather than just around his tear ducts. Is this due to normal allergies,
If you are noticing a greenish color beyond 4 days, this likely represents an infection. Pets with allergies can be more prone to infections. I recommend to have Louie checked by the veterinarian. He will likely get an eye antibiotic. Other things you can do at home to help his allergies include applying lubricating drops a couple times a day to help additionally flush the eyes but this may not clear the current potential infection. You can do this through the allergy season. I recommend to ask your vet about some options for eye lubricating drops (there may be some over the counter products). Green/yellow, thick discharge strongly suggest bacterial conjunctivitis. You can clean the eyes with warm water and cotton buds twice a day, it should give Cooper some relief. However, bacterial infection needs antibiotics treatment to resolve, so you will need to try and get your dog seen by a vet as soon as they open.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration and/or corneal ulcer. At least in these pictures, his cornea appears affected. Occasionally his eyes "weep" a very small amount, he always has eye "boogers" they range from a normal whiteish to reddish brown. My vet told me its allergies but could it be conjunctivitis? What do I do for his eyes? Im assuming it's not comfortable
If he's not squinting his eyelids or pawing at his face, its probably not terribly bothersome, though of course I can't speak for him regarding his comfort level. You can also talk to your vet about trying him on an antihistamine for possible allergies. Over the counter antihistamines are not labeled for use in dogs, so I would encourage you to talk to your vet about it. Hello. Honestly, I would try to get Blue into your vet as soon as possible. The green discharge could be an indication that the cornea was scratched & an infection is beginning to develop. Waiting 3 days may allow a simple scratch to develop up into a deep corneal ulcer, something that will be much more difficult to deal with. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor guy! if the discharge didn't resolve with an ocular antibiotic it likely isn't a bacterial conjunctivitis. I would recommend having your Vet test for dry eye and then treat for allergies. Since he is rubbing his chin he could have allergies to his environment. He may need an eye ointment with steroids in it and be put on a systemic antihistamine. Below is a link to one you can try. I would also recommend preventing your other dog from licking the eye as he could be contributing to an infection. The foul breath could be dental disease or from the type of food you feed. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the eyes to check for any trauma and to see if she has adequate tear production. Dry eye can cause crusting and discomfort and could lead to serious corneal damage if not addressed early on. If there is an eye infection, the veterinarian can prescribe antibiotic eye drops to help treat this as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed.  There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies.  Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market).  If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for env
