My cat & kittens have vomiting/diarrhea after deworming. How long?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I gave a street cat shelter when she was pregnant. She gave birth to 3 kittens. Recently I took them to a vet for the first time. He gave them deworming medicine. It’s been 7 days till then. Mama cat did not eat anything for 2 days and ate only a few bites (2-3) yesterday and today. She is vomiting as well. All three kittens are having vomiting and runny poop. Sometimes the poop is shiny. They have been eating half the amount they used to eat. They are active though. How long will this last?

This should pass within 48 hours or so. I recommend to call your veterinarian and ask about a probiotic. That can help to reset the bacteria within the intestines. A bland diet can also help. Your vet may sell a special diet or you can try 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. If the diarrhea continues beyond 48 hours or if they are getting worse instead of better, I recommend to have them examined again. I hope this helps.
