My dog has raw spots in leg creases. How to stop licking & treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 37 lbs

My dog has these two raw spots in the creases of her back legs. She's been licking them like crazy, which is making it worse. What could have caused these? Also, what can we do to treat it or at least get her to stop licking it until we get her to the vet? (We have an appointment for Wednesday - is this urgent enough to go sooner?)

From the photos it appears as though Bella could have dermatitis with a possible secondary skin infection. If she was bathed recently and water was trapped in between the skin folds, this could have been the culprit. I would recommend starting hydrocortisone spray. You can find Well & Good Hydrocortisone spray at Petco and apply this 2-3 times per day until you can get Bella seen by a veterinarian. I hope this helps!
