My dog is limping. Can I give him OTC pain meds before the vet?

Our 13 lb, 5 year old chiweenie has been intermittently limping or not using his back left leg. Is there an OTC medication we can give him until we get him in to see his vet this weekend?

Unfortunately no, there are no OTC pain medications you can give Chuffy. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would rest him until he sees the vet. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done.

Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give Ruffus. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. I hope this helps!
