Dog biting and licking a spot. Is it a tick, pimple, or growth?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 18 lbs

Dude has been biting himself and licking the same area none stop for a while now. So I gave him a little bath to stop and it didn't work like last time. So I took a closer look this is what I found. At first I thought it was his nipple but I took a closer look and this is what I found. I think it is either a tick or a blood pimple. What do you think it is and what should I do? You can zoom in the pictures I tried my best but he kept on licking my hand and wouldn't stay still.

It looks like it could be a pimple or it could be a growth. Do not try to pop it. It's clearly bothering Dude because he keeps biting and licking the area. I'd have him seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated.

This looks like it could be a growth and it's clearly bothering him if he's biting at it. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Give his vet a call to make him an appointment.

My dog had a growth/bite that is bleeding and has a pin head size hole. When popped white and black gunk came out before blood. Is it a giant pimple or should I be worried?
I would be concerned that this growth is an abscess, and the white stuff is pus. I would have Lola seen by a vet for this. The vet can diagnose if she does have an abscess, which will require draining and flushing, and then antibiotics to treat the infection.

Hi I just noticed a small pimple on my dog’s butt. He is eating normally and does seem to be bothered by it.
This does seem rather small in size and could very well be an insect bite. Since it isn't really bothering him, I would recommend monitoring this for now to see if this will spontaneously resolve If it is still present after 2 weeks or worsens at any time, then its best to get your vet to take a look at this on physical exam. A growth like this is either going to be a bug bite, cyst, or tumor. I hope that your pet Rocky resolves this skin lesion soon! Best of luck moving forward. Take care.

Please repost your question with a picture of the suspected bite. Chances are it isn’t a bite and may be a ruptured anal gland, a hot spot or even a skin mass. A picture would help to kind of narrow things down. We look forward to your repost. Or it may be best to have this examined and treated by your local vet, especially if it hasn’t improved on its own within 4-7 days. Take care.

It is difficult to tell from the picture but this looks like it may be a spot of local skin infection. This infection, along with the fleas, is likely what is making her so itchy. I would recommend getting Dove on a good oral flea prevention. You may want to also try giving her some benedryl to help stop the itch. If Dove is continuing to bite despite all of this the you will need to take her to the vet to be checked out. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Best of luck.

Without seeing it in person or having a picture of it, I can't say if Diesel does have a tick bite or not. Usually there is redness and swelling where the tick has bitten, and there can be crusting of the skin that occurs. To be sure it's not a tick bite, I would have Diesel seen by the vet.

Poor Roxy! This could be a cyst, it could be a skin infection, or it could be from allergies. Because she keeps licking and biting it, that tells me it's bothering her, so yes she should see the vet. I would take her to the vet this week. I hope this helps!

From your pictures, a possible cause might be a lick granuloma. These start for some reason (sometimes a bug bite, a small scratch, or a small skin mass) and the dog licks at them and makes it worse. They lick at it and push surface bacteria deeper which makes it itch, so they lick. It becomes almost a habit like a human biting their fingernails. So- I would recommend a visit to the veterinarian. They can check to make sure that is what it is , make sure that the inciting cause is gone, and do some diagnostics to determine a treatment plan. Has there been any changes to Neo's environment? Sometimes stress can start a lick granuloma or prolong it. Your veterinarian will most likely start antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. They might also recommend increasing his activity in case boredom is a cause. If there is a small skin mass present- they will recommend diagnostics on that. Good luck! Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. Hello. The sore very well could be from a tick bite. You need to purchase a good flea & tick shampoo & bathe him 1-2 times a week. If you can purchase any oral or topical flea & tick preventatives, I would be using these, too. Put an Elizabethan collar on Muji to prevent him from licking the sore & apply a triple antibiotic 2-3 times a day. If Muji begins to act at all unwell, please see your veterinarian as many ticks can carry some nasty diseases. Hopefully, Muji will be doing better soon & thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.
