My dog ate a chicken bone and is throwing up blood. What now?

My dog has swallowed what looks like a chicken bone because I have found bone chips in his blood throw up. It was bright red. Then he’s thrown up yellow and clear bile. Diarrhea once normal stool once. He’s acting happy and fine but the blood concerns me.

Blood in the vomit is a medical emergency, and you are right to be concerned. Roy has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Angel is so cute! I am very concerned that she ate chicken bones and is now having diarrhea with blood in it. This can be a sign of an obstruction and/or trauma to the GI tract, and I would have Angel seen by a vet right away. If these chicken bones have caused an obstruction, it will be fatal without treatment and she would need surgery to repair it. I am so sorry to hear that Cooper is so sick! I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. It is possible that chicken bone ingestion could cause these symptoms but I also worry about parvovirus at his age. Regardless of the underlying problem he is in need of veterinary care. My dog ate a ostrech bone and a few minutes after that ended up throwing up blood. The next day he had a loss of appertite and ended up vomating again (not blood this time) . He is walking and acting normal but he just does not want to eat.
Poor Aj! I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam, as from your description I'm concerned that he may have an intestinal blockage or some damage to his stomach or intestines from the bone. Your veterinarian can take x-rays to assess the situation and see what needs to be done.

It sounds like the bone is causing trauma to his GI tract, and it could be stuck. This is a medical emergency, as it is not normal to have bloody diarrhea, and she needs to see a vet immediately. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. My dog got in the trash today and ate some chicken bones he has vomited 3 times with little pieces of chicken bones in it the last time he vomited it had no bones and blood in it. What should I do?
As long as he is behaving normally otherwise, you can fast him for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (cooked, plain white rice and boiled boneless/skinless chicken breasts) in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour. If he keeps it down, gradually increase the amount fed. Feed bland until there is no vomiting for 48 hours then transition slowly to his regular diet. If the vomiting persists or if Lightning develops lethargy, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain, then you'll need to have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

My 8month old dog is vomiting mucus that is bright orange/red. She has eaten a smoked pork bone dog bones for a few days. Could this be why? Could it be blood? I don't smell blood in the mucus.
Yes, this could be blood, and Savi has to see a vet immediately. She could be experiencing a perforation of her GI tract from the bone, or she could have an obstruction from it. This is a medical emergency, and she needs an x-ray to see if the bone has caused an obstruction, as well as a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis. Please take Savi into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her ASAP.

Keep an eye on Dobby. As long as he's keeping his food down, keep feeding him and offering him plenty of water. Give him half a slice of whole wheat bread with each meal. This may form a ball of ingesta around the bones, and cushion them as they pass through the GI tract. If he continues vomiting, there is blood in his vomit or feces, he becomes lethargic, and/or he stops eating, he needs to see a vet immediately. In that case, find an ER vet or a vet on call. My dog just vomited foam and blood 12:30 AM. She vomited last night in the middle of the night as well... Yesterday she ate an entire bone that she received as a gift fro somebody. The throw up from last night consisted of nearly ALL of that bone in
Poor girl. It sounds like Lemon may have a stomach ulcer or even just irritation of her esophagus. She really needs to see a vet soon to have this treated. If she otherwise seems stable and isn't extremely lethargic or have pale gums, then it may be ok to wait until morning to get Lemon seen. There are regular clinics open on Sunday such as Banfield or VCA, so its best to call them first before resorting to an EC clinic. Its best to feed her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice to help settle her stomach somewhat until she can be seen by a vet. I do hope that Lemon's vomiting episodes resolve soon! Best wishes and take care.

I have a new puppy about 7 weeks... I think he ate a chicken bone and now his poop is runny and he threw up
If you think Rio ate a bone and is now vomiting then you need to get him to a vet ASAP. That bone could be stuck in his intestinal tract causing a blockage, he could have gotten a severe bacterial infection from the bone, he could have pancreatitis or gastritis from that. A vomiting puppy can get dehydrated very quickly so that is another concern. Please take Rio to your vet as soon as you can.

My 18 month old Springer spaniel loves his bones yesterday he vomited and there was a chunk of bone in it today he has had diarrhea and vomited once more and there was a little bit of blood in it
Poor guy. It sounds like Riley is having classic signs of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, which is likely caused by the bones or something else he ingested. It is best to get him to your vet as soon as you can. However, if there is no one available today and he otherwise seems to be pretty energetic and isn't continuing to vomit, then you can do some things for now to help calm his stomach down. 1) Bland diet- boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice 2) Fiber- 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) added to his food daily to help firm things up 3) Probiotic- over the counter Culturelle or Fortiflora (available online) added to his food daily to help resotre his normal GI flora. When pets have blood in the stool this indicates their intestines are inflammed and the GI flora is imbalanced. If Riley seems to ill however, taking him to an ER vet today is highly recommended.
