My dog's stomach is growling after eating ham. What should I do?

The ham may be upsetting Bigboy's stomach, leading to the growling. Do not give him any more ham, and keep an eye on him for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have him seen by a vet.

I'd have Rory seen by a vet today. This ham bone could be causing an obstruction leading to the diarrhea, and if he does have an obstruction, that will have to be removed surgically. Please take him into a vet now to get checked out. Best of luck.

We have our dog some left over Xmas ham last night 13 hours ago) we have just found out ham is not good for dogs, he seems fine, should we take him to the vet?
No you don’t need to take him to the vet right now. If he start acting lethargic, stops eating, or starts vomiting or having diarrhea, then yes I would take him to your vet then. Your vet will be able to get him started on something to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. I agree that ham isn’t the best thing to feed them, but some dogs will eat a little bit and not have a problem. Just watch him closely. I hope this helps!

We fed our dog some ham and now he's drinking a lot of water and is not feeling good. Help!!
It's not recommended to feed your dog ham because it's very fatty and can cause both GI upset and pancreatitis. It sounds like he has an upset stomach, so I would withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day. You can then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he vomits in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

My dog was given like 1/8 cup home roasted ham on thanksgiving, should I induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide or Is it ok?
Ham is safe. At most it would cause an upset stomach, which could cause vomiting and/or diarrhea, but nothing serious. It's unlikely that buster will have any issues due to this, so no need to do anything drastic. It must have been a great Thanksgiving snack for him though. I hope that helps and happy Thanksgiving!

You can try a bland meal or two of boiled rice and chicken to see if it helps settle Benji's stomach if it's due to minor GI upset. If the gurgling continues, or you see other issues such as vomiting or diarrhea, it could indicate something else such as internal parasites, underlying illness, food allergies, etc, which should be checked out by a vet. Bringing in a stool sample along with Benji to the vet can help rule out the more common causes of stomach upset.

If it you only noticed it once, and she's otherwise totally normal, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're noticing a pattern of frequent loud stomach sounds, I would recommend discussing that with your vet to see if they would recommend any medical work up (it will depend on her overall health) or if you can try different dog foods -- perhaps probiotics or a bland prescription diet.

I just found my dog got into a garbage bag that had ham from Christmas in it .... he vomited a bunch up. I don’t know how much he got...the one time I didn’t stand at the window watching him and this happened. What should I do?
Hi and thanks for posting on PetCoach- sorry to hear Boy got into the garbage! I would withhold food for him for the next 12 hours- he can still have access to water. You can then reintroduce him to his normal food. I'd give him about 1/2 of what he normally eats and see if he keeps that down before giving him more. If Boy continues to vomit or experiences diarrhea or lethargy then I'd recommend Boy see his veterinarian ASAP.

Poor Timmy sounds sick. Try offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. Should he eat this, feed it to him for a couple of days, then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat it, then have him seen by a vet.

My Doberman ate 3 bagels. Her stomach is making weird noises as if she needed to use the restroom. She sometimes licks her stomach. She is sleeping right now and doesnt seem to be in pain. Should I be worried?
Hi, as long as the bagels were pure and did not contain any raisins or any other potentially toxic ingredients, I would not worry about it if she is resting. Let her rest today and take her for just short walks little and often, and monitor for any vomiting and diarrhoea. I would starve her for at least 12-18 hours. It would be unlikely that he has an obstruction if he is not vomiting. He could have some gastrointestinal discomfort from a parasite, infection, or possibly eating too fast or over-eating. If it continues, have him examined by your vet to determine if there is an abnormality. Your vet can check a stool sample to look for parasites and prescribe a dewormer, if needed. Your vet can also prescribe an antacid or gastrointestinal protectant to help relieve any discomfort.
