Dog has mucus in stool and won't eat kibble after recent meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 76 lbs

Stephanie has had antibiotics treatment and an extensive broad spectrum deworming treatment about a week ago. Just today, she excreted normal stool with what looks like a lot of thick mucus. She has had problems with her appetite since I got her as a puppy till now. I grew her on bland diet (white rice and white chicken meat) with multivitamin supplements. She totally refuses to eat kibble and would rather starve for (3 - 7) days than eat the kibble. Am I over worried as some suggest?

These signs (fece with mucus) could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
