My dog has a lump on her rear leg and is limping. What's wrong?

We’ve noticed a lump in my dog today in her rear left leg. She’s been limping. No wounds. She’s a Chihuahua mix. 20 pounds. What could it be?

Poor Sandy. She could have injured herself, may have a cyst, an abscess, or a growth causing the lump and limping. Limping means she is in pain, so please take her into the vet to get examined today.

Oh no, poor Rosie! This bump could be the cause of her limping, which can be caused by an infection, an injury, a tumor, or a foreign body. Given she has been limping for 3-4 weeks, it's time to see a vet now. I would take her into a vet today for a physical exam and possibly x-rays of her paw. Once the cause of the limping is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

My dog fell over while having a run earlier today and now has a hardish lump on her leg, she doesnt like me touching it and she is limping quite a bit
Please make an appointment to have Tammh seen by a vet as soon as possible. She is likely in pain, and may have a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, a mass, or a foreign body in the leg. Your vet can assess the leg during the physical exam and may recommend x-rays to help determine the cause of Tammh’s limp. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Tammh without consulting with your vet.

I just noticed a large (size of an avocado pit) semi soft mass on my dogs right hind leg. She just started limping today favoring the left leg and the lump just appeared today. She recently had two non cancerous slow growing lumps removed from her ch
Considering the mass just appeared and she's also lame, I would suspect that it's a fluid swelling due to an injury. It would be best to have her seen by a vet sometime in the next day or two in order to diagnose the specific condition and provide the necessary treatment. For now, you can ice the affected are 2-3 times a day until you are able to see the vet. I hope that helps and Coco gets better soon.

Our dog sandy has been limping really bad with her back leg, it always worse after she has had a walk. She tried to make the stairs and couldn't do it. She has never been this bad. What can the vet do?
The vet will need to find the cause of the limping which could be severe arthritis, a cruciate ligament tear, an injury, a foreign body or infection in the leg. Once the diagnosis is made your vet can treat the cause. Infection will be treated with antibiotics, a cruciate ligament tear can be treated surgically and sometimes conventionally, arthritis and pain can be treated with NSAIDs and/or pain medicine, etc. Please take Sandy to a vet as soon as possible.

Diamond needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. This could be a cyst, an abscess or a necrotic tumor. It looks like it could be infected whatever the cause. If it is a cyst or tumor, it will need to be removed. If it is an abscess, it will need a drain. It probably does hurt. She needs an exam, possible diagnostics, medications to address and infection (if present) and pain. She also needs an elizabethan collar so she cannot lick the area. I hope they figure out the cause quickly.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. It could also be swelling or an abscess. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Found a lump on my dog's ankle, the size of a quarter and it moves or "floats" around when I touch it, is not red or hot to the touch. I noticed it when Katie began limping last night and within hours it got bigger (started out the size of a nickel)
This appears to be swelling in the knee joint. What we would consider the "ankle" is much lower in the leg. There can be a pocket of joint fluid on the inside of the leg. It is possible this is a skin lump at the exact spot of this fluid pocket, but I doubt it. I suspect she is not putting weight on the leg because she injured the knee, and now as the swelling increases it is becoming more and more painful. I recommend she be seen by a veterinarian to check the stability of the knee to determine if she ruptured her crainial cruciate ligament or CCL (which is like a human's ACL).

I would recommend that Chico get checked out by a vet. There could be lots of causes including a torn ACL, broken bone, sprained ligament, or even bone or soft tissue cancer. After a physical exam, the vet may recommend x-rays to determine what is going on.

There could be a few things going on with Tiny. If she isn't spayed, she could have a mammary tumor, those are common in unspayed dogs. Even though the lump has gone down, still have it checked out by a vet as 50% of mammary tumors are malignant. While there, the vet can check out her hind leg. She is in pain if she's limping, and she may be painful leading her to stretch a lot. Please take her into the vet in the morning.

It sounds like Chacha needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. That lump is worrisome for inflammation, infection or even cancer. The not getting up to pee is concerning that she is in pain. Have her examined today, there is nothing you can do at home to help her and she needs medical attention. I hope this helps.
