My dog's mouth is bleeding and shaking. How can I help until the vet?

My dog is shaking and licking the air and her mouth is bleeding. Does she have a loose tooth? How do I help her until we can get her to a vet in the morning?

It could be a loose tooth. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. See if she will let you look at her mouth gently so you can try to stop the bleeding if possible. If not, don't push it. Do not give her any food tonight or in the morning, and get her into a vet asap. She can have water.

The good news is that unless blood is streaming out of his mouth, he's unlikely to be in any danger from this blood loss. The bad news is that things in mouths bleed profusely and it's hard to get the bleeding to stop. You can't apply pressure easily or even a substance to stop the bleeding. While not life threatening, I would consider this an urgent situation. Confine him as best you can tonight to limit the damage (a crate, a carpet-less room) and call your vet first thing in the morning. They may be able to work him in to their surgery schedule as an emergency. At minimum, he should be evaluated tomorrow. If blood is actively dripping from his mouth, he's lethargic, or you just can not have him in the house being bloody anymore, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic for evaluation and monitoring before surgery tomorrow (probably still with your regular vet). They may be able to sedate him at an emergency clinic and apply pressure to the area while he's sedated to get i

When I woke up this morning my Dog was bleeding from her gums and Had a Side wats canine and front tooth still in the gum on her right side. Now occasionally she looks up at nothing for a few seconds. She is old and I don’t know what to do.
Poor Bel! She likely has some dental disease and an infected tooth. I would give her soft food until you can get her in to see you vet. She may be uncomfortable but I do not recommend to give her any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. I would have your vet take a look at her. They will likely prescribe her some pain meds and possibly some antibiotics. Depending on her age, health condition and the condition of her teeth, they may or may not recommend a dental. My dogs back tooth is bleeding. I tried taking pictures but she wouldn’t sit still. She doesn’t seem like she’s in pain. Is there anything I can do.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like Ginger may have broken her tooth. I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. The vet that looks at it will be able to help more once a diagnosis is made. Good luck and kisses to Ginger!

Poor Rocky. Please do not give him any human pain medications as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Feed him canned food or soften his dry food with water before giving it to him. Have him seen by a vet first thing Monday morning.

My dog mouth us bleeding and looks like his tooth is broken what can i do
Poor Osi! Apply gentle pressure if he will let you to try to stop the bleeding. Take him into the vet first thing in the morning, and don't feed him in the morning. The vet will likely need to sedate him to remove the broken tooth, and he needs an empty stomach to be sedated safely. Best of luck.

My dog is a year old - 62lbs - and broke her tooth pretty severely at the gum line. I don’t know how she did it and it was bleeding for a while. I’m taking her to the vet when it opens in about 6 hours but i want something to give to her for pain
Poor thing! I can’t imagine breaking one of my teeth at the gumline. I understand that you are very concerned about her experiencing pain and I am certain that it is painful to have a broken tooth at the gumline. But here is the problem, most over-the-counter pain medications that would be strong enough to help her will interfere with tissue and blood clotting. Why does this matter? Because most likely your veterinarian will recommend either extraction of that tooth or restorative surgery for that tooth. Both procedures will involve anesthesia as well as tissue manipulation. So I cannot recommend you start any kind of pain medication right now at all. But never underestimate the power of simply petting and loving your dog during the six hour wait. Studies have shown that simply by safely and lovingly stroking and speaking to your pet can provide a lot of unexplained stress and pain relief. My dog is continuously bleeding from his mouth. His paws are covered in dry blood and he leaves puddles of blood on his pillow. He is disoriented
You should take him to your vets without delay. If he is bleeding a lot you vet will have to put your dog under general anaesthesia to stop the bleed. Also, it is important to find out why he is bleeding. It could be due to a problem in the mouth (large wound or cut on the tongue, bleeding mass etc) but it could be a problem with blood clotting.

Oh dear! If Ginger is bleeding from her mouth and not moving, she needs to be taken to the vet immediately. Without being able to examine her, it's hard to say what might be wrong. She may have been hit by a car or sustained some other serious injury, or she may have a wound inside her mouth, or may be bleeding internally. Your veterinarian can examine her and may recommend blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help determine what's wrong.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! If the gum is bleeding I would be worried about an infected tooth or a foreign body under the gum line. I wouldn’t say it’s an emergency since he is eating but I would recommend it be addressed soon as Max sounds like he is in pain. An emergency vet is likely not going to be able to fix the problem anyway but could prescribe some pain medications if warranted. Please do not give anything over the counter for pain as it may not be safe for pets and could cause delayed treatment for Max. If you wait until Tuesday I would recommend continuing to soften his food with water. Good luck and kisses to Max!
