Why is my Miniature Schnauzer regurgitating food hours after eating?

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

My 2 year old miniature schnauzer with cerebellar hypoplasia has been regurgitating her food hours after eating. She has done this 5 times in the last 25 hours. She is still playful and interested in food and water. I dont know if she has pooped in 24 hours. Not in any noticeable pain.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sweetpea. Poor girl, she sounds sick. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If there isn't an ER clinic in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

My dog is a Lhasa also and shihtzu mix, I don’t know if that helps with the situation. My dog just threw up what looks like is her food. It was kind of lumpy. This happened hours after she has eaten. First time she has thrown up like this.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! Sweet pea may have a condition known as pancreatitis that is causing her to vomit. This occurs commonly when dogs eat high fat foods and can be extremely painful and result in severe illness that may require hospitalization. Sweet pea may also have a foreign body that is causing the vomiting. I recommend keeping Sweet pea off of food for 12-24 hours and offering small amounts of water. You can reintroduce food slowly. Sweet pea should be seen by a vet immediately if she develops diarrhea, loses her appetite, or is lethargic. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

It sounds as Frio is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
