Why is my senior St. Bernard not eating and throwing up today?

St.bernard who's 10 years old has just lost appetit today and just got sick....she's had an open wound on her leg for 2 months which she's been getting injections via vet to kill of infection while it heals...

Poor Sally. Loss of appetite and vomiting could be due to many things including a stomach illness, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, and even cancer. I'd take her into a vet asap to get checked out.

Vomiting, weight loss, and decreased appetitie in a 15 year old dog could be caused by many different things, including kidney disease, liver disease, cancer, infections, pancreatitis, diabetes, etc. He needs to be examined by a vet for a work-up with blood-work and x-rays to determine the exact cause. Once diagnosed, your vet can determine the best way to treat the problem and the prognosis. An anti-vomiting medication may help with the vomiting and get him eating again.

Hi I'm sorry to hear that Sabo is unwell. There are many many potential causes for her to vomit frequently. With her age, I am concerned about kidney or liver issues. But also pancreatitis is common in her breed. Take her to your vet first thing tomorrow. They will run blood tests to check her internal organs.

In a senior dog, there are a number of things that could be causing this such as kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, or cancer. He sounds very ill, and I think he needs immediate veterinary care. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

Most of these signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed. I hate to hear your pup is so sick. He needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Weight loss and not eating are signs of illness and just like people, pets can get sick for many many reasons including kidney disease or even cancer. Since he can't talk and tell you how he feels, he needs a physical exam to begin figuring out the cause. He will likely need some blood work and maybe radiographs. Bring a stool sample just in case. At his age, chronic diseases and cancer become more worrisome. I hope the doctor figures out the cause quickly and that he feels better quickly. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hi, My border collie is 13, he has been vomiting for over 36 hours he is very lethergic. vomit has a sickly perfumey smell.. he takes 1 tablet per day to stop diaoreha because of intestine damage from he was a puppy.
Based on that history and your dog's age I would be concerned about something more serious going on than simple gastritis. His symptoms could be due to a metabolic disease like Diabetes, kidney failure, pancreatitis, toxin exposure as well as intestinal disease like an obstruction. With the lethargy he could be dehydrated and/or in pain and need further care. I recommend you have your veterinarian examine Barney as soon as possible.

I would recommend finding another vet. You can call your vet to see where they recommend you going since she is unable to see Baybay. Diarrhea, vomiting, and loss of appetite can have several causes, including dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. The vet will do an exam and discuss his medical history to determine which diagnostics may be needed.

I am sorry to hear about Bruno! With his symptoms going on for several days and his age, I would recommend bringing him into the vet for an examination as soon as possible. There are MANY possible causes for vomiting in dogs https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/ ranging from ingesting some food that starts a bout of pancreatitis (which can result in decreased appetite and vomiting) to infections to tumors to other internal diseases such as liver or kidney issues. The vet will perform a physical examination and will likely recommend diagnostic testing such as x-rays and bloodwork to try to determine what is causing Bruno's illness and how best to treat it. Treatment will depend on the cause but often includes injectable medication to help with vomiting/nausea and fluids with an IV to help with dehydration.

Restrict her activity as much as possible. Avoid stairs, running, jumping or rough play. You can use a towel or sheet as a sling to support Cinnamon when she needs to go out. Sling it under her abdomen and hold it as you would a briefcase. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte as long as she is not vomiting. A bland diet can also be offered. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate her appetite. You can also add warm water or low sodium chicken broth to her food to get her eating. Have her seen by your veterinarian first thing Monday morning.

I would recommend a broad spectrum deworming to see if that helps. Then, if it hasn’t been done yet I would run some blood work. If that is normal then I would encourage you to have her stomach and intestinal tract biopsied. Are you planning to spay her? If so I would recommend discussing the possibility of obtaining biopsy samples at the time of spay. This is something I have done frequently.
