My Chihuahua ate catfish bones and won't vomit. What do I do?

My little Chihuahua ate a piece of catfish bones. What do I need to do. I gave her Peroxide to make her throw up 15 mins ago but she hasn’t yet

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Bella. Do not try to make her throw up again! The bones could get caught in her throat. These bones may just dissolve in her stomach acid, so watch her for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her poop, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have her seen by a vet right away. If this is going to result in an obstruction or dietary indiscretion, you may notice the signs in the next few days. These signs include inappetence, anorexia, vomiting and abdominal pain. If you notice these signs, have him evaluated by your veterinarian as this may represent either a gastrointestinal obstruction or even some degree of dietary indiscretion that would warrant further assessment. My son dropped a piece of pork rib bone at dinner last night and my 2yr old lab ate it. She has vomited twice this morning. Should I take her to the vet?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Bella is beautiful! There are many possible outcomes from eating the bone. If it was a small, smooth piece it could pass on its own in 24-48 hours. It could get stuck in her stomach or intestines and need to be surgically removed. Or if it doesn’t get out of the stomach through the intestines, she could vomit it up. If she has vomited twice already and it hasn’t come up, it probably won’t. I would recommend taking her to a vet for a radiograph to see where the bone is. If it is in her stomach they may be able to use a scope to get it out. If not, the surgery is less complicated for removal. If it’s in her intestines, I would recommend surgical removal to prevent damage and a more complicated surgery. If it looks like it’s already in the colon it should pass on its own. The X-ray will tell a lot and the vet can prescribe medications to help Bella feel better/stop vomiting. An early trip to the vet can sometimes prevent more expensive options and is

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This can certainly be due to the chicken bones. It could be due to dietary indiscretion or even more concerning due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. The fact that Bailey ate dinner and did not vomit makes me think that it is less likely for this to be an obstruction though if the vomiting resumes or he stops eating, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Dog ate cooked bone earlier and coughed for a while after digesting she now has constant stomach noises and is a bit uneasy but shows no signs of vomiting
Your dog still may vomit the bone or some of the bone fragments and she will probably have an upset stomach for a day or so. She will probably also develop diarrhea or soft stools because of ingesting the bones. Keep a close eye on her and if the vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or she starts having bloody stools, you will need to take her to the veterinarian. My dog swallowed a big bone cooked n she tried to vomit thrice immediately after swallowing but nothing came out.will she b alright?
Poor girl. I would monitor her for the next few hours and if she just keeps trying to vomit, you will need to have her seen by your local vet bc she may have it stuck in her esophagus. Only offer her water until you know that she is ok, stops vomiting and is not in distress. I do hope that Chhutki is going to be ok. Best of luck and take care .

If you have an emergency vet available in your area, I would strongly recommend getting him seen right away. Keep him warm, keep him hydrated by offering low sodium chicken broth, ice cubes to lick and get him seen the second you can. And make sure to submit the vet bill to whoever fed him bones and people food. It may not do any good, but it may make them more aware of the consequences of feeding pets something they shouldn't have.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rex. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. Pancreatitis is common in his breed, especially after human food ingestion. Pancreatitis results in severe vomiting and diarrhea which will lead to dehydration. I also worry about the bones blocking or puncturing his intestines. The veterinarian will examine him and likely recommend blood work and x-rays of his belly. Based in these results, treatment can be started. I hope this information helps!

All you can do it wait. Some dogs can pass these but it may cause vomiting and diarrhea along the way. I would not make her vomit any more up as this does run a risk of causing a tear or scratch in the esophagus and more damage. You can try to feed bread in the hopes it can stick to the bone shards and pad it along the way. If you notice continue vomiting or bloody diarrhea with no appetite, then I would get her to the vet

I am very sorry to hear about Tomy. If he truly has bones stuck in his throat this is a medical emergency and he needs to go to the vet immediately. They can sedate him and try to manually remove the bones, which requires a delicate hand as damage to the esophagus can be very dangerous. Sometimes dogs can also have vomiting or retching when something like a bone is in the stomach, which also needs veterinary attention.

I agree it's likely the bone causing Lola to vomit. Dogs should never been given cooked bones because they easily break in the GI tract, leading to perforation and obstruction of the GI tract. Because she vomited the bone up, I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
