My dog had shots, but was near a dog with past parvo. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 20 days old | 75 lbs

My dog is almost two. and had all his puppy shots. We went to the park today and one of the dogs he was around had Parvo over a year ago. Is my dog ok, or should I be worried and get him. checked out.

No need to worry at all! Not only has Oakley had all his puppy shots, but the dog had parvo over a year ago. Dogs are not carriers of parvo, once they recover from it, they cannot infect other dogs.

Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. If Branson has had 3 sets of his puppy shots, he will have pretty good protection against parvo already. Also, if the pup he met is a Parvo survivor, presumably the puppy had recovered and was no longer actively shedding parvovirus. So, I wouldn't be too worried. Of course, if Branson develops diarrhea or any other signs of illness, then have him checked out by your vet just to be safe. Hope this helps!

If your five-year-old dog is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, it is very unlikely that he contracts parvo from your puppy. At this stage your puppy still needs to rest so should not engage in exhaustive play with your older dog, so watch them a little bit so you can slow them down if they get too wild.

If Rocky is vaccinated for parvo, he will be safe. If he's not vaccinated, the answer to your question depends on how long ago this dog had parvo. Dogs with parvo can shed the virus for at least two weeks after exposure.

You don't need to worry about her catching parvo. The vaccine is very effective and she has been properly vaccinated. I would be more worried about her getting roundworms or hookworms from eating poop. I would suggest having her dewormed as a preventive measure. Please don't worry about her catching parvo.

Hello, while we can see carrier states with Parvo, generally this is from naturally infected dogs that have survived the virus. It is extremely unlikely that a vaccinated dog will be a carrier of Parvovirus. I think your new puppy will be perfectly safe, as long as you protect the puppy from going anywhere other than your home & yard until he is fully vaccinated at 4 months of age. I work with someone who's dog just passed away from parvo. My dog has his vactionations. Will he be okay? I kept my shoes outside, tho I am not sure of that's nessasary to do or good for me to do.
Because Snickers has had his vaccines, as long as they are up to date, he should be protected from parvovirus. By up to date I mean having regular boosters of the vaccine every three years. If it's been longer than three years since he had his last parvo vaccine, then there is a chance he could be susceptible to it. It's fine to keep your shoes outside, it's always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion! I hope this helps!

It's true that parvo is very stable in the environment and can last as long as a year, but I would not be too worried if it's been a few years since the yard was contaminated. It's always difficult to know exactly where they get infected, but it's unlikely for one to get infected in an environment where there has been multiple years without known contamination. I would not worry too much about letting your pup in the yard, but I do understand your concern. Having one vaccine is helpful for preventing infection and can keep an infection from getting too bad. However, it's not 100% effective. He will be most protected when he gets his last booster around 16-20 weeks of age. It's important to ensure he gets vaccinated every 2-4 weeks until that last booster, because that will protect him the most. It will also be good to limit his contact with other dogs and other areas where dogs have been until his last booster. I hope that helps and all is well with Bentley.

It is not likely that Kona will get Parvo as Parvo mainly attacks young dogs up to about 2 years of age. If Kona had the full course of vaccination (2 basic within 4 weeks , and then the yearly booster) then she is definitely protected, But even if not, she should not get Parvo at this age,

I would strongly advise against it. Parvo can be be shed for days even after symptoms have resolved. If your dog was over 2 years old and fully vaccinated I wouldn’t be as concerned, but at only 2 and 1/2 months of age, his immune system is not fully developed. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! In theory, she has not mount a response to her vaccines yet so she can still get infected with like parvovirus if those feces were infected with parvovirus. However, that is very unlikely so I would not worry about that too much as the chance of that is very small. Good luck and have a great day! She is likely going to be just fine.
