My dog has a bleeding nose scrape. What safe first aid can I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 110 lbs

My dog has a scrape on the top of his nose which is bleeding. I am wondering what is safe to use on a dogs nose as far as first aid products. I was considering cleaning with peroxide and then applying neosporin. Should I bandage it because the nose is a naturally moist area? Or let if get air with no bandage?

A superficial scrape will generally heal on it's own. You may gently cleanse the area and then pat it dry. Don't put anything on it as it may encourage Tank to lick the area. The problem with the nose is that the tongue can reach it. Protect the area from rubbing and he may need to wear an elizabethan collar. It should heal in 10-14 days. If it does not, if it gets worse or if it looks deep, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps.
