My dog had eyelid surgery for an ulcer; are the sutures painful?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 2 months old | 85 lbs

My dog was diagnosed with an indolent ulcer secondary to entropion. She had a procedure yesterday where her eyelid was tacked down with sutures to allow the ulcer to heal. I was told that her ulcer is all but healed now (just a small ulcer), but she's still squinting and pawing at her eye again. Can some of the discomfort be from the sutures? Her quality of life is in the toilet because of this

It could be discomfort from the sutures. It also likely feels weird to Taurie to have her eyelid tacked down. Make sure she is wearing an Ecollar so she doesn't rub her eye and interrupt the healing.
