My dog chewed a phone cord. Is she okay from electric shock?

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 43 lbs

My 13 month old border collie Do you through my phone cord while it was plugged in to a surge protector. I induced vomiting bc she swallowed some pieces but was concerned about electricity. Emergency vet says she will be fine but wanted to be sure. She is playing, and drinking water. I haven’t given. Her any food

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Luna. Oh no, that wasn't good! You can check her mouth to see if you see any burns in there, but you would have known right away if she was electrocuted from chewing this cord. I suspect she may be ok, and I would feed her. I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Oh no, that’s not good. Gracie is a big dog, and these pieces may pass without problem. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her poop, anorexia, or lethargy. If you see any of those signs, then I would take her into the vet. I hope this helps!

Hello. If you can account for the majority of the cable, then I would not be too concerned. Any very small pieces if swallowed will pass through the digestive tract. But over the next 3-4 days, if Filomena shows any signs of lethargy, belly pain, vomiting or loss of appetite, you will need to have her seen by your veterinarian. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi and thanks for posting. While it is possible to become electrocuted from tampering with electronic devices, cords, etc, just licking the charger is probably not enough to cause an electrical shock. Usually patients that have been electrocuted exhibit sudden behavioral changes and may even have trouble breathing or exhibit burns on their mouth from chewing on cords or other areas of their body. Unless Rocky is experiencing sudden changes in behavior, breathing, etc, I don't think a lick on the Mac charger is cause for alarm.

That looks like a burn from biting on the electrical cord. The soft tissues in her mouth can take a couple of days to show the wound from the electric shock. Take her to the vet tomorrow for a full exam, they will pay particular attention to her mouth and lungs. There are no home remedies that i recommend for this.

He should be ok, these are tiny pieces, even if he ingested them this isn't likely to cause any damage. as the chord wasn't plugged either there is no danger of electrocution. obviously you need to be careful as if he chews other cables that are plugged this could be fatal.

I woke up to find that my dog has chewed up a lamp wire, I don't know if he's swallowed any of it. Should I take him to the vets? If he has swallowed any will this harm him or will he pass it naturally?
Toxicity wise there isn't much to worry about but the wire could still irritate the stomach and intestines, depending on the amount it could also cause an obstruction. if the wire was connected to the electricity at the time of ingestion he could also have been electrocuted which can cause some internal damage in the lungs and throat for example. you should consider all these options and decide if you want to monitor him for now or take him tp the vet right away for a checkup.

My cat seems to have gotten shocked yesterday. I was there, she went to sniff the on/off switch on my record player. She didn’t bite it, just touched it with her nose. She backed away abruptly and hissed, her face was scrunched for about 15 seconds,
I would be sure the check her mouth for any lesions which can be seen with electric shock, checking the gums/tongue/inside of the mouth. Also keep an eye on the nose. I expect she was just stunned by a mild static shock unless your record player is malfunctioning it shouldn't cause her a severe shock unless she was chewing on the cord.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that this was causing her an obstruction and now she has thrown it up and defecated some of it and has thankfully relieved her obstruction. That is good as surgery is needed in most cases as they are not able to pass it or throw it up on their own. You can continue to monitor her for signs of an on-going obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal pain, inappetence or lethargy and if observed, have her examined then as soon as possible as that may represent an emergency. Otherwise, if she is back to her normal self and no more symptoms show, she may be ok. Good luck!

Hello. I would not stress too much about this. The biggest concern would be mold from the soggy food. If you notice any tremors, twitching or seizuring I would have her seen by a vet immediately, however otherwise if she is happy, eating/drinking, and behaving normally I would just monitor her at home.
