My 6-month kitten has bloody diarrhea and is lethargic. Help!

Hello, I have a 6 month old kitten who i rescued at 5wks as a stray and adopted her. As a baby she had a hard time gaining weight and had loose stools and was dehydrated often. Now she’s a good weight and eats a lot and plays all the time, but today i noticed loose stools with bright red blood in them and she’s quite lethargic. I don’t know what to do and i’m extremely worried about her

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Rose. Poor little girl! I'm quite concerned that she has diarrhea with bright red blood in it and is very lethargic. Based on this, I think she should see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Poor kitty! It's time to see the vet again since her poo is bad again with blood in it. She may have have something like coccidia or Giardia causing this issue, and those can take a while to treat. I'd take her back to the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

My kitten has blood in her stool, is slightly uncoordinated and isnt eating or playing much. I haven't changed her diet from the previous owner. She hasn't used the litter box much either.
The most common reason for a kitten/young cat to have diarrhea (especially with blood in it) is intestinal parasites, namely coccidia. I suggest you have your vet do a fecal test on her. Hello I have a 5 week old kitten and I’ve already taken her to the hospital to be treated yesterday because she had diarrhea due to the wrong food and they gave me medication for her. They gave me some probiotics and they gave me oral anti diarrheal
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Donnie. Poor girl! Don’t worry about the photo, we’ve seen worse! I see a little bit of red but not a big amount. I’d keep an eye on her for now. If you keep seeing red in her poop or it gets worse, then take her back into the vet ASAP. Keep treating her as directed by the vet. I hope this helps!

Poor kitten! I think you're in the right for trying to get in sooner to have her checked out by your vet. If she is bleeding a lot or is having severe diarrhea or vomiting, then seeking out care from another vet or even an emergency clinic may be a good idea. Keeping her bottom clean and dry can help, and feeding a bland meal of some boiled chicken may help as well until you can be seen.

Hi, my kitten Nala is about a month old. Recently she started throwing up. She was ok until today when she threw up twice and started to have diarrhea, I noticed a little blood when she was pooping too. What should I do?
I would recommend taking your kitten in to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your kitten is most likely suffering from intestinal parasites, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Your vet will likely want to run a fecal examination and will deworm your kitten. It may also be time to start your cat vaccines as well. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. My 6-7 week old kitten is lethargic and doesn't play at all and sleeps all day. She eats fine but she is the runt so she gets a little bullied. She just pooped and I think there was some blood in it.
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Izzy is very cute. It's quite likely that the blood you are seeing is from intestinal parasites. Puppies and kittens should be dewormed starting when they are 2 weeks old. The deworming should be done every 2-3 weeks for at least 3-4 times to clear out as many parasites as possible. Some of the intestinal worms are blood suckers so they suck blood from the lining of the intestinal tract. This can lead to anemia or low red blood cell numbers, which can cause low energy, lethargy, sleeping more. Other reasons for blood in the stool could be intestinal infection, dietary change or dietary problem, foreign body ingestion, toxins, etc. You should take Izzy to your veterinarian so they can assess her, advise some fecal tests, other tests if needed, and treat her accordingly. They can also advise you on her preventive health care so she gets a good start out in life. Good luck with Izzy.

Kitten is 6 weeks old. We were feeding her wet food with formula milk and was fine. Fed her Dry food soaked in water and seems like it does not match with her. She had diarrhea a couple times and looks like there is a small amount of blood in it. Vom
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Nami! At 6 weeks old Nami should be on 100% kitten food. She no longer needs formula. It could be her diet or the formula causing the diarrhea. Other causes of diarrhea in a kitten are: intestinal parasites and viral or bacterial infections. The blood indicates inflammation in the colon and the blood tends to show up with severe diarrhea or diarrhea occurring for several days. If Nami is eating and no longer vomiting I would eliminate the formula and the food you think upset her stomach. If the diarrhea isn't better in 2 days then bring a stool sample and have her seen by a Vet. If she won't eat or vomits again she needs to be seen. I wish Nami the best!

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Rosie! I am sorry she isn't feeling well! I am worried that Rosie is having a vaccine reaction the the FVRCP. I recommend that you take her to your Vet for a recheck. They likely will give her anti-nausea medications, fluids under the skin and medication for her diarrhea. They may even give her a steroid injection for the vaccine reaction. She is very little and dehydration can set in quickly. The blood is likely from inflammation in the colon. Other causes for vomiting and diarrhea in a young kitten are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity and toxins. I got a 7 week old kitten on Thursday. He arrived and has had bloody diarrhea since. He has been eating kitten food and drinking water. I'm pretty sure he wasn't weaned from mom and was last nursed that day. He is playful and seems like a normal kit

If he wasn't weaned and is now eating a kitten food, that could be causing the bloody diarrhea. I agree, it does look like his anus is protruding a bit. Given that he's eating and drinking and otherwise acting normally, it's fine to wait until the morning to wait to take him into a vet. He should see one first thing in the morning to get treated. Tonight, keep feeding him and giving him water, and keep him warm and comfortable. I hope this helps!

Your young kitten likely has intestinal parasites that are causing the diarrhea. This is very common in puppies and kittens. You can pick up some dewormer at the local pet store to give her or call your vet and they can recommend a type and dosage. At this age you can probably start offering your kitten real food as well. You can moisten some kibble with warm water to help soften it which will make the food easier for her to eat. If you deworm the kitten and she is still having diarrhea she may need antibiotics to help clear it up.
