My dog has a lot of gas. What can I give her, and is human Gas-X safe?

My dog seems to have an excessive amount of gas. What can I give her to relieve this? Would OTC Gas X for humans be acceptable?

Unfortunately I cannot legally recommend giving any OTC medications to Truffles without seeing her in person. Try feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If this doesn't help, have her seen by a vet.

Change his diet to boiled chicken and rice a GI formukabsince it is easy to digest. You can also add a probiotic to the food to help replenish the good, normal bacteria. If this does not help you can try gas x. If it continues then I would consider a check for parasites and blood work to make sure oral medicine is it needed

Thank you for giving the dosage! So this amount is more than it recommended for a dog her size, but this medication is generally very safe and well tolerated at very high doses. You may see some loose stools as a result of this, but she should be fine. I hope this helps!

Have a 13 year old Plumber Terrior, that has gas problems. He's not tender around the stomach area. Suggestions as he is driving us out the house.
By far the most common cause of too much gas in a dog is due to dietary indiscretion or difficulty in the digestion of its current diet. I would recommend gradually changing Elmo's food to something different over the course of About a Week. You can also use human products such as Gas-X two help reduce the amount of flatulence that Elmo is having. Gas-X is not a drug that is labeled for dogs and cats so there is no agreed-upon dose. I would suggest doing some reading online to find the dose that you are most comfortable administering. Other less common causes of increased flatulence would include more serious diseases such as gastrointestinal infectious or inflammatory process, liver disease, or pancreatitis. Hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear that Benji is experiencing an increase in flatulance, as I am sure this is unpleasant for you. With no other clinical signs present at the moment, I would suggest that Benji has eaten something that doesn't agree with him. Perhaps a days worth of bland meals to help his intestines recover would be helpful. Boiled boneless chicken breast and white steamed rice are a good option, as well as prescription bland diet dog foods. I hope that this was a useful answer and that Benji returns to normal soon.

Luna passed loose stools this morning and had been passing foul gas. Please could you suggest some remedies.
As long as she is behaving normally, you can give her tummy a rest by withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to her regular diet afterwards. Symptoms to monitor for and that should be addressed by your veterinarian include vomiting, persistent diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. A bland diet can be made by offering plain white rice and boiled boneless/skinless chicken breasts mixed in equal amounts. Start with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount.

This is not uncommon following new and rich foods and generally will settle down within 3-5days. A probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora alongside a bland diet may help rebalance the gut and monitor closely for any persistent vomiting which may indicate the need for a vet visit and additional treatment

Yes flatulence may be dietary related. Chicken and rice is the most digestible diet. What is safe to give a ten pound fur baby for intentional upset?
Stomach upset could be caused by toxin ingestion, parasites, change in diet, infectious diseases, blockage in the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Fuzz seen by a veterinarian to help determine the cause of her symptoms. In the mean time, you can try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding Fuzz small amounts of the resulting chicken broth and cooked chicken with some boiled white rice once it has cooled. You can also try offering her cooked extra lean ground beef and boiled potatoes. These bland foods can help settle Fuzz's stomach. I don't recommend giving any over the counter medication to Fuzz, as some human medications can be harmful for pets.
