Why does my newborn Manx kitten have a dark sac around its anus?

My newborn kitten has been born without a tail and has a very dark, hard sac around its anus. His/her father is a Manx breed so we have another kitten without a tail but its anus looks normal. What is going on here?

It could be a diverticulum where there is the formation of a pouch or sac due to hernial protrusion of the mucous membranes through a defect in the muscular coat of the rectum. I'd have Ginger checked out by a vet for this.

Yes it is possible that animals are born without an anus or a stricter region. These are called birth defects and usually means there was a problem with development. I would recommend taking the kitten to a veterinarian for an exam to assess what is going on. Hope that helps

Without seeing her anal area it is difficult to tell what is going on with her. If there is a redness/bulging around the rectal area it is possible she is experiencing what is called a rectal prolapse which can be seen in kittens who have diarrhea, often due to parasitism with worms or protzoal organisms. It is best to have the kitten examined to see if this is what is going on, or if there is another cause for what you are seeing. They can test the kitten for parasites and also help determine its age and whether or not it is ready to get vaccinations to prevent future illness.

If the rectum is protruding, this is called a rectal prolapse - it's usually caused by excessive straining to poop, which in turn is often caused by intestinal parasites other other causes of diarrhea in kittens this age. Depending on how severe the prolapse is, it may need to be surgically replaced - and the underlying cause will also need to be treated to prevent it from recurring. I would recommend taking Shadow to the vet right away, since the longer the prolapse stays out, the more damage is done to the tissue and the more difficult it will be to treat.

I have a 2 month old kitten who has a red and inflammed anus. He was trying to poop but with no luck, he gave up. Someone suggested to me that he was constipated and to contact a vet.
He may be constipated or have a partial rectal prolapse. Veterinary attention is recommended to diagnose the underlying cause prior to treatment. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites which are a common cause of the symptoms described, especially in kittens.

I just adopted a kitten his butthole is like pushed out bot prolapsed but protruding there no blood in his poop he doesnt overly strain while pooping should i be concerned
There is nothing I would be worried about as the anus seems only mildly inflamed. Usually this is caused by softer feces/diarrhoea. I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My kitten is acting and playing normal but his butt is swollen and part of it is sticking out. What 's the cause and what can I do
Swelling of the anus/rectum could be due to constipation/hard stools, anal gland issues, allergies, irritation, or other problems. You would need to have the area looked at by your vet to determine what is going on and get the appropriate treatment. Be sure to let your vet known of any other issues you may have seen such as changes in appetite, energy levels, stool habits, etc. You can also use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent your cat from licking/chewing at the affected area if it is bothersome until you can get to your vet.

New kitten 3-4 weeks old. Owner said , kitten was wormed and had eaten soft food. Been feeding 1-1 1/2 tsp of soft pate cat/kitten food. She doesn’t want to drink much water. Have given her whole milk twice. I noticed blood droplets on her bed. Anus
She is still very young to be away from her mummy so if you are having trouble getting fluids into her You may need to go to the vet or pet shop and buy kitten formula milk for her. Ensure that you are feeding a high quality wet kitten food also. Under no circumstances should you ever feed a cat cow's milk, unfortunately this I a very common error. Cats cannot process lactose properly and it can really upset their tummies. As for the anus, it is hard to make out from photos but it certainly looks very inflamed and sore. This could be due to swelling from straining to defecate due to worms or diet intolerance such as the milk. This could lead to more serious issues such as infection or prolapse. The best thing would be to take this little one to the vet asap for a thorough check over. The vet can decide what treatment is needed for the anus. They can also worm the kitten to be safe, advise on appropriate diet and make sure it is generally a healthy kitten. Best of luck with her.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Nimbus! His anal/perineal area is likely stretched from the pressure of hard stool and straining. It is likely to eventually look normal. But it will take time and there is a slim chance that it will always protrude. As long as he defeates normally without straining if it is permanent then it is likely just cosmetic. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mr. Whiskers. He does seem to have an abnormality with his anus. He will need to see his veterinarian. He may be constipated and straining to defecate. He could also have intestinal parasites causing him to strain. If the condition is allowed to progress, he develop a prolapsed rectum. This becomes more serious. If his meow has changed, that could be a symptom of an upper respiratory infection. His veterinarian will be able to address both issues. I hope this information helps!
