My dog ate sour cream and ranch dip. Is it toxic? Should I feed her?

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 30 lbs

Our dog just ate an entire 16 oz container of sour cream with an entire Ranch Dip mix mixed in it. Will this hurt her? She has not eaten her nightly meal yet, can we go ahead and feed her or should we wait? Needing some answers. We are mainly concerned with the amount of sodium that is in the ranch packet.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Elphie. The concern is not only the sodium, but the garlic and onion powder in the ranch dip as well as the fat content of the sour cream. Too much fat can cause pancreatitis. I would take her into a vet immediately to have vomiting induced. Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Jax got into the french onion dip. While onions are toxic to dogs, it requires a large quantity of real onions to cause a problem to dogs. Signs of onion toxicity include lethargy, pale gums or red-brown gums, vomiting, or drooling. If Jax is still acting normally and it has been over 2-3 hours from the time of ingestion, he should be OK. He may have an upset stomach and have some diarrhea for the next couple days, but he shouldn't experience any serious complications. If you are ever concerned, I recommend contacting your nearest veterinarian to see if Jax can be seen. I hope this is helpful!

My dog ate about a tablespoon maybe a little less or a little more of ranch. What should I do?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! Snickers should be absolutely fine. There likely isn't enough garlic / onion to cause any major problems. If you begin to notice that he is vomiting or having diarrhea but normal otherwise, I would recommend starting him on a bland diet for 3-5 days and then transition back to the regular diet. I was eating salad and i spilled about a size of a dime of ranch on the table cloth its made out of cloth not plastic i wiped it up and left the room and found kd licking that spot where the ranch was on the tabble cloth could he get sick from that?
I would not be worried that KD will have any problems from licking the table cloth. Certainly ranch salad dressing can cause an upset stomach in dogs or cats, but they have to ingest a large amount of cause any problem. My dog got into my onion rings she is part coonhound part Australian shepherd and weights about 50 pounds. She ate about 7 or so onion rings and there are no vets opened or taking new clients in the town I live in cause of covid 19
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Onion in toxic to dogs but it does not sound that Dakota has eaten large enough amount of onions to develop intoxication. The toxic dose of onion is about 15-20g/kg of bodyweight, so it means that Dakota would have to eat about 300-400 grams of onion (which is a whole large onion) to get into trouble. Please, keep an eye on her at home, she may develop mild signs of gastroenteritis (one vomit, mild diarrhea etc) but there should not be any other worrying symptoms.

My dog just ate 2 onion rings. I know onions are bad for dogs. She is 55 lbs. She had aten a pork ear prior which is greasy I wonder if this lined her stomach and may help slow absorption of the onion. What should I do?
Thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco with your question about GG. The toxic amount of onion in dogs is 100 grams (about the size of a medium onion) per 20kg of a dog's weight to cause toxic effects, which means that a 45 pound dog would have to eat a medium to large onion to experience dangerous toxicity levels. Luckily in this case, two onion rings will not contain that much onion. There is a concern about the fattiness of the onion rings, as they are fried, and fried and fatty foods can cause pancreatitis in dogs. I would monitor her for vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, a hunched up appearance, vomiting undigested food, and lethargy. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet immediately. Hopefully, however, she will be just fine, and I don't think in this case, you need to do anything. Don't induce vomiting, and there's no need to take her into a vet unless you see any of the signs I just mentioned. I hope this helps!

My dog weighs 33lbs and is 4 years old. She just ate 125ml of butter and 75g of Swiss Cheese - Do we need to take her to a vet to get her stomach pumped?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Not necessarily. While she could develop dietary indiscretion from eating something high in fat, pumping her stomach would probably be a bit much. I would watch her closely for signs of dietary indiscretion like vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence and if observed have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment at that point. There is a chance that she will be ok with this and not develop any signs though I would watch her closely in case she need therapy. Good luck and best wishes! I hope she does great!

Watch him closely for signs of gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, nausea and/or diarrhea and have him evaluated by a veterinarian if these occur and persist. Best of luck!

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Onion in toxic to dogs but the toxic dose is fairly high. Sadie would have to eat more than a half of a large onion (or a whole normal size onion) to get into any trouble. She may show mild signs of stomach upset, like a bout of vomit or loose stools but there should not be any more concerning symptoms.
